    Agree to the puzzling.

But did you notice this ( times ) in the before 'ipconfig' ?

Unless there is a Typo ( or I am reading wrong ) this is not right.

According to the way I read it, it says lease expires app 6 hours before it should. And this was from the night before.

I did notice BB but at this point, I really want to find out if a manual renewal will re-establish the connection.

Since most of the lease periods are right at 24 hours (which is a usual setting for many ISPs) that one was maybe just an anomoly.

Really beginning to look like something broken with the IP stack on the PC but hard to start a fix without a better idea of what broke. Not even really sure if it's the PC or an issue with the ISP DHCP server.

Good eye to spot the time issue though.

I may just be collecting my thought but with the
    I will sure agree because;

If this one does indeed read correctly
    Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, March 15, 2005 9:19:12 PM
    Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, March 16, 2005 3:15:15 PM

Then if this one is correct ( 1st after fault )
    Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, March 16, 2005 6:17:13 AM
    Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, March 17, 2005 6:17:13 AM

I think it should have taken over ( or illiminated ) the previous one and I do not believe there should have been a problem in the afternoon. At least not as far as the lease goes. UNLESS it was going by the one made at 9:19:12 PM.

No other ideas ( wild or other wise ) at this time.

Just checking in. I have had no problems today. Some additional information. Last night was re-arranging the computer room so I had to unplug the computer, move to new area, hook everything back up. Upon start-up wouldn't recognize either hard drive (I have 2) or my cd drives (2). I opened it up and checked the internal plugs thinking something may have gotten loose. Nope. Finally called a friend who I figured might be able to help. We worked on it for about an hour. Bottom line, something had disabled my CMOS settings. My buddy thought it might have been from some static electricity from moving it since everything was fine before I unhooked it. Reset CMOS and everything was back to normal. Is it possible this may have 'fixed' my problem? I didn't know if there would be any correlation between these or not. Thanks.

Did you ever get a new cable?

You have a cable problem, as I stated before. The problem is intermittent. Moving the computer or reseating the connections probably fixed it temporarily. You still need to get a new cable to fix the problem permanently.

You may also have a dead or dieing CMOS battery. I believe the part number is 2032 or CR2032.

From what I read there was on heck of a lot more occurred other than just moving a cable.

If the above is a true readout I believe it could well tie together with the below very nicely.

Only time will tell about fixing.

I believe there may well be some correlation between events. Only time may answer that question too.

If the battery is dead or dying it might not.

The way I read things I do have to agree with that. 10 to 1 that may well be the problem in the first place. And if the CMOS lost its settings while moving it is very possibly dead. or darned awful weak.

jkerns007 I would make a new battery a priority. It can not hurt.

This now brings up a question.

    jkerns007

I do not know the full proper name, but do you have some sort of Power Profile ( or what ever it is ) loading at startup ?

If so that could have shut down power to the MB and if the Battery is not good that could cause all kinds of problems. Including timing etc.

Everything is still working fine. I did happen to notice that my pop-up blocker (POW from AnalogX) has not been on since the CMOS thing. I found out about POW from another BBS that I trust. Is a really great blocker but I don't know if that would have contributed to the idle time lost connection thing. I will leave it off for the next few days and see if anything changes. Hopefully, though, the CMOS reset somehow fixed things. Thanks for all the help. CloseHaul - my friend finally got around to dropping off an extra cable for me to use. Thanks.
