TerminallyOdd - Welcome to the Board :)

When posting it is helpful to describe your problem in detail so that we know the background, rather than having to wade straight in to something like a dump log. Thanks.

What were you doing on the computer when the crash occurred?

This dump is very strange. Do you have any others?

    Sorry about that Pete.

Basically, the laptop just shuts off randomly. Well, it doesn't really seem to shut off, the display just goes black (both on the LCD and the external monitor). The lights on the laptop remain on, and I can hear it still running, but it doesn't respond to anything. I have to manually power it down.

This is a company computer, so the person who uses it explained to me that this can happen at any old time. There's nothing consistent as to when it shuts down. Sometimes a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message pops up upon restart, sometimes not. It just happened again today, but I didn't see a dump file this time.

It's a sit and wait problem, which are the worst. I've disabled hibernation and set the computer to never go into hibernation mode, hoping that there's some issue with that.

Sounds like it would be a good idea to set this PC to give a BSOD when it crashes (easier to get some detail) and to make sure you have things set so you can get a full dump when it crashes. To do that, the pagefile must be on the system drive and must be at least 1.2 times physical memory size.

Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, click the Startup & Recovery Settings button then

I had done that already, Newt. Thanks, though.

On a side note, after it goes into this shut down, it takes lots of tries to finally power it back up. First, you have to hold down the power button so all the LEDs on the laptop shut off (to fully shut it down). Then when powering it back up, it seems it doesn't want to power on immediately. The LEDs go on, but the screen stays black. It takes a few times doing this to get rolling again.

Here is another dump file from the same day:

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

ok, i see whats going on now. You need to reconfigure to get a FULL MEMORY dump rather than the minis you are getting now. Youll need to engage microsoft support to have the dump analyzed, it needs to be hand debugged.

Its crashing in a wierd state, im not at my desk, think thats the APC routine. The debugger cant figure out what really crashed, so the thing has to be rebuilt by hand.

Only other thing i can say is that DMICall.sys is loading. This is old and generally not something i am used to seeing on XP machines. You might want to investigate it. I see aec.sys, BthEnum.sys and some other bluetooth, DV stuff in there, can't tell the dates to make sure you are running the latest stuff.

I'm not too sure what that means in regards to what I should do from here.

This thing crashes all sorts of ways. I kept it running overnight, and came back to find it fine. I went to pick it up to put it on my lap, and it locked up on me. It was completely frozen, no response from mouse, keypad, etc.

Just set for a full memory dump (see the picture from post #5) and then when you have the crash, run that dump thru the analysis process and post the results so Joe will have more to work with.

I'm not too sure what that means in regards to what I should do from here.

The problem here is that your machine is crashing in a way thats abnormal. The debugger wizard cant figure out how to tell us whats broken. You will need to engage microsoft support ( http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=assistance ) and have the experts debug it. They will want a FULL memory dump, not a mini.

I cannot go further over the internet. I pointed out those other drivers to you because I STRONGLY suspect the crash is the result of a malfunctioning driver, and those drivers are very new/very old/not popular, so are likely suspects for which have the problem.

From here, you can try disabling those drivers, or open a support ticket with microsoft.

Oops. I gotta read closer. Joe already said he had to pass on this one and that M$ support would have to do the deed. Oops.
