This is my first post on this bbs and I'm excited to be an active member in the community. My boss's laptop has outlook 2002 installed in xp. Afew days ago he says that outlook just stopped working. After a full virus and spybot scan there is nothing out of the ordinary on his machine. I have tried reinstalling outlook and it reinstalles with all of his previous information. I am currently booted into safe mode and I can use outlook somewhat. It is booting but it takes a good 15 minutes before it is loaded up and then about 5 - 10 minutes to switch back and forth between contacts, calender, inbox, etc. The computer is fine infact quite fast and outlook is using zero resources during startup. I have updated fully and am at quite a loss. Please help me before I throw this thing out of the window or format it.

    Thanks,

    Mark

How large is his mail storage folder? Above a certain size and the app goes nuts. Bosses are often terrible about saving all sorts of posts with attachments.

From Microsoft (written for 2000 but also applies to 2002 I think)
And while they show 2Gb as maximum, you can start seeing strange behavior at anything over around 1Gb.

i tell you, and everyone else that has spent hours and hours trying to make outlook work. RUN SCANDISK. I spent hours troubleshooting the pst files and everything else it turns out the outlook.pst file was corruptted. a quick 2 hour scandisk fixed everything just perfect. I look forward to the next post I make, b/c I'm a windows admin so there will be lots more lol.

    Thanks,

Glad that worked. Older OS verson then?

Take a look at some of the tools and ideas Here. A couple there will do a great job of repairing .pst and .ost folders.

It might be fun for you to look around the site even when you aren't having troubles. Probably some threads where you can help out and others where the break & fix might be needed at some later time so nice to have the information.
