    Strange problem!

From XP, I whant to browse a folder on a '98 machine. This folder contains about 1500 text files.
When I try to open the folder, it takes about 10 seconds to show the content.

I've mounted the shared disk from '98 to a linux machine (with smbmount).
After this, through Samba Server, I' ve re-shared the mounted folder on the network. The time of browsing this folder from XP is now only 1-2 secconds.

    XP --- '98 = 10s

    XP --- Linux(Samba) --- '98 = 1-2s

I've deactivated the veriffication of task list made by xp on a remote machine, so this is not the problem.

    Anny sugestion?
    Thanks!

There are several services in XP that could affect this.

    Computer Browser
    Distributing Link Tracking
    are a couple.

All unnecessary services have been deactivated.

All unnecessary services have been deactivated, including that two.
The cause seems not to be here.

Does the 98 PC have DUN 1.4 installed? If you aren't sure, no harm in downloading and installing it.

Have you done This on the XP PC?

    Solved

Ok, it seems that I've solved the problem.

I've disabled QOS. Now the browsing works OK.
All other tips and triks for networks was already tried.

    Thanks for all answers!
