Can't play .mpg and .mpeg files

All of a sudden I cannot play .mpg and .mpeg files on my computer, no matter what program I use. I get audio, but video. My .avi, .asf, etc. files seem to work, just not .mpg and .mpeg. I ususally use Winamp to play my vids, but when I tried it with WMP, it said I was missing a codec and gave me this message:

"The codec you are missing is not available for download from this site. You might be able to find it on another site by searching the Web for "{E436EB81-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770}" (this is the WaveFormat or FourCC identifier of the codec). "

The search I did on the net got me nowhere. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Any idea how to fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

U might have a codec conflict.

Did u recently install a codec pack? (K-lite codec pack, Nemo codec pack...). If yes, uninstall it and see if it's better.

Try to uninstall Windows Media Player and reinstall it.

Once it's done, go to windows update, u'll see a codec package to download for WMP 10 (other updates > xp family).
