have an xp sp2 client that the dialer is always coming up even though no one is initializing it. have gone through everything i can think of and told it to never dial but still the dialer keeps dialing. have looked in msconfig and nothing unusual there. they are using mozilla for both email and internet and have gone through those settings also.

any ideas ??? any registry entries i can change to stop the auto dialer ???

Guess you've gone through the usual routines? ....

Run Spybot and immunised, Ad-Aware SE, MS AntiSpyware (with autoupdate on this initiates the dialup box) all available through Quicklinks in my sig, SpywareBlaster 3.3 for some permanent protection, IESpyads for yet more?

Checked all programs with autoupdate function?

Might be worth posting a HijackThis log.

i've gone through everything i can think of and there is nothing that should be auto dialing. nothing unusual in msconfig nothing in start folder except for the hp printer stuff. machine is extremely clean was surprised myself to see how clean it is. the IESpyads web site is malfunctioning at my end so cant see what program this is. i always use spybot, spywareblaster and ad-aware. client said it started happening as soon as they installed the mozilla applications but have gone through its settings and made what changes i could find in its settings. not much there though has to use the internet options settings which are set to never dial.

Not familiar with Mozilla - info on IESpyads here - the site is down over here too!

    Suggest running HijackThis.

Maybe post a new thread in the Netscape & Mozilla forum?

    Somebody is.

Have they allowed the connection to complete to see where it goes ?

I am betting ( gambling ) on the fact that the Mozilla install was cut off short of completion. Or in a case of my own I did not allow something to connect to the Internet after an install. So the system told me ( by trying ) that I had not completed the install.

I have also run into this type of a problem when the machines WAS NOT restarted after an install.

And also from getting in too big a hurry after an install.

Those USED TO BE my biggest problems after installing stuff.

With many software installs things do not ( or at least may not ) get registered ( in the registry ) properly untill the machine is restarted.

I installed a new HP printer 3 months ago. Minumum setup loaded a boatload of startup processes .. including an auto-update feature. Was printer recently installed or recent update from HP applied?

client said it started happening as soon as they installed the mozilla applications but have gone through its settings and made what changes i could find in its settings. not much there though has to use the internet options settings which are set to never dial.
For Mozilla Suite, has one set to never dial setting. If Mozilla FireFox (Tools / Options / General tab) and Thunderbird (Tools / Options / Advance tab), both have set to never dial options.

Now that I have my brain back in somewhat proper order and having an HP Printer the problem could be with it too.

A bad or incomplete install there could create the problem.

That is one reason I suggested waiting to see where the connection took them. ( if anywhere ). I have had them come up with a No Page display message.

It seems that NOST installs nowdays ask to go tot the Net. With some of them the install does not complete if we say " NO "
