    What version of 98?

Are the 98 machines set to " Auto Optain IP address ? "

I had the problem with 98SE after I installed a Router and it got accidently powered down.

I set them to Auto obtain and all has been well since.

But the machines did need to be rebooted.

By any chance have you just tried restarting one of the 98 Machines to see if it picks up the new address ?

If that does not work then they may not be set to Auto Obtain.

I take that to mean that you have one machine set to be a DHCP server. Why not replace that with a ROUTER ?

I ask this because if that one machine goes South on you ALL will not get to the Internet or LAN. A Router would still allow the others to get on.

Are you saying the lease doesnt renew? Or are you saying the machine does not get a new IP?

The IP address should remain the same forever unless the machine is powered off for more than 2 weeks. The DHCP lease automaticaly renews in one week with a 2 week lease time.

Hope Im following your problem correctly

They mean if your ip configuration is not set to obtain an IP automatically, it will get a new IP when you renew it manually, but when it expires it will not renew itself. Set it to get an IP automatically and this should solve your problem.

Make sure all of the 98 PCs are running DUN version 1.4 - you can get more information and download the update from Here. I would download and install it even if you think you already have it.

I know DUN stands for Dial Up Networking but in reality, that update changed lots of the networking pieces for 98.

If the problem persists we can look for other issues.

Why not just assign it a static IP address?

It does not renew? Are you sure? As stated earlier, it will generally renew with the same address. Is this causing any actual problem on your network with communication, sharing, etc.?
