    Meaning???

We're not mind readers, so if you get any error messages, it would help if you posted them.

Reads like you have put yourself on the right troubleshooting track.

    Start killing background programs.

I just had to kill Roxio Drag-N-Drop for the same reason. But it was OK Yesterday.

When I start having that kind of a problems, killing backgound stuff it the first station I visit on the track to fixing.

To me the above says it may be not be ( or be more than ) a CPL file problem. It may be just plain something INCOMATABLE.

Or maybe even too much running in the background to begin with.

If it were just the CP then it might be something different.

I have also had a very simmilar problem when I would run certain program in a certain sequence. Run A then B = problems. Run B then A = no problems.

Run A in the background and B might not run at all.

And this is sometimes a VERY TOUGH thing to find. It requires CAREFULL MONITORING and EXPERIMENTING.

And in this area Microsoft may be no help at all. Every machine may be different.

Another thing I have learned. When installing software it may be better to shut down both AV and Firewall.

as it turned out the virus checker from computer associates detected 143 bugs that norton missed.

downloaded ez trust removed the bug and it seems to work just fine now
