My WMP doesn't work. Always get the same error message. Have downloaded current version 10.0 but no luck. Can I uninstall WMP and then reinstall it to eliminate any problems? P.S. I tried to uninstall WMP using the add/remove function and it would not do it.

    Thank you.

    The error is always COOD1199

Have I downloaded too many codexes?

My system won't let me restore to any previous date.

    Thank you.

    Thank you Rick.

I've been to those sites. Still no luck.

Is it possible to uninstall and reinstall WMP?

If I reinstall XP without reformatting my hard drive

    would that work?

    Thank you.

What is the extension of the file you are trying to play?

The sure fire way of ensuring that you have a file which is 'correct' in every respect is to go to My Music > Sample Music where there are a couple of .wma files installed with XP. Can you play those?
A Repair of XP is quite possible without reformatting and should fix the problem given that the problem is with WMP and not with the files, but be aware that, in my experience, it is not 100% reliable and can lead to tears if it does not run smoothly. If you decide to go down this route be sure to back up all your data first - just in case you end up reformatting and reinstalling everything. This includes backing up emails, etc ....

    Outlook Express

Export your account details - Tools > Accounts > Export. Once you have re-installed Windows you can import them into OE.

Export your Address Book - Addresses (Menu Bar) > File > Export > Address Book (WAB). Again you can import this back into OE

Change the default Message Store for OE - Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder and select a location on another partition/drive (if you have one) - best to make a folder there first. After Windows is reinstalled just point OE to that location. Otherwise search for *.dbx files and copy all to CD and import them after the re-install (We can outline how to do this if you have to reformat)

    Internet Explorer

File > Export > Favourites - you can import them to the new install later.

File > Export > Cookies - you can import them to the new install later.

On the other hand use another, third party, media player.
