I upgraded from ME to XP. I also converted my files from FAT32 to NTFS - when I converted Windows said it would remove the back up copy of ME. Now, when I run disk clean up, it shows ME still sitting there taking up a large amount of space. Is it safe to go ahead and get rid of it?

Also, if I have a crash, do I have to rebuild from Win Me up? Or, can I just rebuild from XP?

    Thank you:rolleyes:

So long as you have the install disk for ME to supply as proof when using your upgrade XP install disk, you are safe to remove the old files.

You'll no doubt like XP much better than ME so I doubt you'll ever want to revert.

    Good luck.

    Have disk but....

Okay, Zephyr -- I do have the ME disk - it came with the puter, but what do you mean by proof? Will the install disk for XP ask me...I don't understand. In the event I have to wipe my disk, ie virus, crash, blonde moment, do I then have to start with the ME disk and then the XP disk?

And....if I go and elimate the existing back up of ME that's just sitting there....that won't cause me any heartache?

By the way, I love XP, it's smart, clean and such a refreshing system after using ME. ME was just awful.

    Thanks again,
    Saucie

Yes maam, that's the usual drill when doing an Upgrade install. You'll start the install with the XP upgrade disk. Then you will be asked to slip a previous version disk in the drive bay to prove you had it. You don't have to do it the first time since it's obviously on the drive.

No, I can't see any downside to dumping those old ME system files since you seem well pleased with XP and have no intentions of reverting to ME. MS has always done that with upgrade installs.

I remember keeping Win3.1 files on my drive for several weeks after upgrading to Win95. Like you, I finally got up the courage to delete them but I probably had a better reason than you, I was nearly out of drive space. I recall I was running a 420 meg drive at the time. Such a deal. Yeah, one of the big ones.

Dump 'em and don't ever look back.

    Best regards.

My wife won't let me go to IL so I'll have to decline the offer. ;)

Actually I'm from Mt. Vernon, IL originally.

    Thanks for the chuckles. :D
