I had the problem of Mozilla starting up using 100% of the CPU and having to terminate firefox.exe in Task Manager and then using the dreaded IE I cam tot his thread.

I followed the instructions and removed my two old version of Java using Control Panel (1.4.2_05 and 1.4.2-06) and successfully installed Version 5.0.

I then tried to change the applet in the advanced button of the Java in Control Panel and the following error message came up when I tried to apply the change to use Java in Firefox.

I had already removed the Microsoft Java earlier.

I uninstalled Firefox and re-installed Firefox 1.0 but still could not activate the Java. I am pleased to have it back but I need the Java enabled in order to run my password toolbar Roboform.

I am using XP Pro and I think I have the correct permissions mentione din the error message.

    Comments appreciated.

    Welcome to the Forum, IanH!

    Ian,

Since Sun is not up-to-date on the Firefox browser yet, checking "Mozilla and Netscape" in the <APPLET>Tag Support option, is sufficient.

Have you enable Java and JavaScript in the browser preferences:
    Tools | Web Features

To test your Java install, go to this page, scroll down, and if the "Duke" is dancing then you install is good:
    http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Some XP users seem to have problems with the 5.0 Version. There is also an updated 5.0.1 Version. If you decide to update let us know. Or if you do update and continue to have problems, then you might want to downgrade to Version J2SE v 1.4.2_07 JRE

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

I had to copy the necessary files to all my browsers'plugins folders, from the Java directory. Netscape7.2, Mozilla1.7.5 as well as firefox1.0 when I upgraded to Java 1.5 and later 1.5_01. There are seven file. It took half a day. kidding but it was very irritating. But all is working well.

    Westside,

How irritating, but knowing that you run XP, maybe that is what's needed! However, this doesn't work for everyone. At any rate, I will list those files to be copied from the C:\Program Files\Java\jre 1.5.0_01\bin to the Firefox plugins folder:

    NPJava11.dll
    NPJava12.dll
    NPJava13.dll
    NPJava14.dll
    NPJava32.dll
    NPJPI150_01.dll
    NPOJI610.dll

    Westside,

Take the weekend off from the Internet, and take your lovely wife out to dinner, while the weather is still decent. We're due for some rain, how 'bout you?

    Still having problems

    Ramona

Since Sun is not up-to-date on the Firefox browser yet, checking "Mozilla and Netscape" in the <APPLET>Tag Support option, is sufficient.

Have you enable Java and JavaScript in the browser preferences:
    Tools | Web Features

Yes Tools>options>Webfeatures shows both Java and Java script enabled

To test your Java install, go to this page, scroll down, and if the "Duke" is dancing then you install is good:
    http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

    Yes It did dance

Some XP users seem to have problems with the 5.0 Version. There is also an updated 5.0.1 Version. If you decide to update let us know. Or if you do update and continue to have problems, then you might want to downgrade to Version J2SE v 1.4.2_07 JRE

How do I get the 5.0.1 version as updating from Control Panel>Java tells me I am up to date?

It seems to make sense to try this before going back to the older version.

My corrected post earlier was to tell you that the original error was 100% CPU usage.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

I do and any assistance appreciated

Thanks for being so prompt in replying.

    Ian,

In the Control Panel | Java
    General Tab | About

Is this the Version you see: Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_01-b08)

If so, then you are up-to-date. If not, 1.5.0_01 is available here:
JRE 5.0 Update 1 includes the JVM technology
    Download JRE for Windows

Java now up to date but still unable to activate in Mozilla

    Ramona

I uninstalled as I was showing 1.5.0-b64 and following the link re-installed and it now shows 1.5-0_01-b08 in Control Panel>Java and as Standard edition 5.0 Update 1 in plugins but I still get the error message in Control Panel>Java>Advanced when I try to tick the Mozilla or Netscape box.

My alternatives are to go back to 1.42_05 but that was what it showed when I was having the CPU 100% problem or to uninstall Mozilla and Java and start again.

    Awaiting your advice.

    Ian,

Ignore the error, if you have gone to the test page and see the "Dancing Duke ". Have you also gone to a website which uses Java? I usually use this page for a second test: http://weather.noaa.gov/radar/mosaic.loop/DS.p19r0/ar.us.conus.shtml

Click on the "loop" in any of the sections, and it will load Java, and the Doppler Radar will be active.

    Thanks, the end

    Ramona

Appreciate assistance, double checked that Java is working on both sites so will not worry about error.

I also found that updating my Roboform plugin for Netcape and Firefox made that work also. I think I learnt a little during the saga.

    Thanks for Sunday service!

I'm running Firefox 1.0.1 Final (02-26-05) with XP Pro (SP-1 on my desktop computer, SP-2 on my laptop), and just installed Java JRE 1.5.0.02. I have NEVER had to copy any files from the Java folder (any version) to my FF plugins folder for Java to work properly with any version of FF ... the Duke has always danced. :)
