when I run my AVguard it checks the MBR and the boot disk and it usually says "ok" but now it is saying "change both on the master boot and the boot disk check.

    what does that mean?

the only new things I have done are installed 512MB of extra ram

and changed the size of my "D" backup disk, because I didn't have enough room to backup my whole drive with the size of it as it came from factory.
I used the "partion magic" which came installed on my computer to change the size of the "D" drive.

would either of these be causing the AVguard to display the MBR and Boot disk chage message?

and is it anything I should be concerned about?

if so I can reinstall windows or do a factory reinstall from my backup disk.

I can't use system restore because I had it turned off to save memory before I got the memory upgrade.

    thank you. :)

the reason I am concerned is the last time I had boot change message, av found three trojan horses in my windows files from a program I downloaded and I had to do a factory reinstall

but this time I have ran Av and it found no virus or trojan horses

    Hi shortgal

when you altered your partitioning it altered your MBR - your AV software noticed this and alerted you

if you have scanned and found no nasties then you probably don't have anything to worry about

    ==

there are good online AV scans available (for free :) ) - see the BBS recommended links - eTrust, Trend HouseCall and RAV.

Every once in a while it's wise to cross-check your own AV solution by using an online scan... Belt-and-Braces approach.

No AV software is perfect, they've all got (tiny) "blind spots" - many posts from people who have changed from AV to another, and suddenly find the new AV spots nasties that the old one missed...

...that doesn't mean the new one's better, just that the blind spots are different!

    best wishes, HJ

thanks you HJ, for explaining to me why I have the MBR change message. I am a worry wart about my computer. :D

I will check it with the free Norton Scan also just to make sure.

    Have a good day. :)

If you're satisfied that all is well and that the changes were not due to something untoward, you can reset the program so that it will not show those changes until they occur again. Reset so to speak. Otherwise you have no detection in the mean time.

To reset the readings, open the Control Center > click Tests > System Area Test Settings > and press the Default button.
