Yesterday My computer said that it had experianced an error and that I should download and run Symantec (Automated Support Assistant) and then reported Information about your product and the Problem, Product NAV , Version 11.0 , Language english , Modle ID 3031 , Error ID 1011638, Build STANDARD. Then the Problem seemed to go away? I do not know if this next part is connected but today I got, Warning pending fatal error,C:\DOCUME~1\OWNERG~1.000\LOCAL~1\Temp\WERc7ba.dir00\Mini031005-01.dmp C:\DOCUME~1\OWNERG~1.000\LOCAL~1\Temp\WERc7ba.dir00\sysdata.xml BCCode:20 BCP1:82089CC BCP2:FFFFFFF BCP3:00000000 BCP4:00000000 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP:2_0 Product:768_1 The question is does anyone Know what I may be experiancing and am I in danger of a crash? Thanks Lenny Chowns loonychoons

Please observe Posting Rules #3 - Meaningful Subject - I have edited your title.
Clearly you have a problem - what it is may come to light by running this dump file through the Dump Data Collection Tool and posting the dump data.

    Hello Lenny,

Don't know why you got the error other than it occured with a file that is in a temp folder.

Follow Newt's cleanup instructions in this thread to clean your temp folders out http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=42170

    Regards - Charles

Did you have or do you have a problem with Norton?
This would indicate that Norton had some kind of problem yesterday, at least.

Automated Support Assistant is a tool/service that Symantec runs to help diagnose and possibly fix a problem with Norton: See solution 1.

    Sorry!!!

I guess that I should have said on the subject line (Are these 2 errors related on my XP ?) And then decide which Form to put it in? So again I appologize Mr.Admin (Arie is it) But I was not sure that they were both(Norton AV Errors) that was what I was asking? Thanks to Charlesvar and Petec and for sure Newet The problem is fixed. I do have another quick question can or should (compress old files) be deleted? But I did have to click on C drive and delete the Temp Folders one at a time as disk Cleanup would not delete them.

There may have been a Norton problem Yesterday the error showed up just when I started to run a Norton virus scan just after I updated it. I am not a big Symantec fan (because of non tech support) but the Automated Support Assistant said that the installation was faulty (but I installed and have been using it for at least a month.) loonychoons

Perhaps there was a problem with the last update (?autoupdate?). Does Norton function, now, without an error? Can you scan without a problem. Open Norton and use the option to check for updates. Run this thing through it's paces? You don't want to have problems, particularly if you use any of the auto-protect options (which I hope you do.. :) ) The time to find this out is before you get caught by an attempted infestation, which will succeed if Norton is crippled.

That is a mis-leading entry on the part of Microsoft. Leaving it checked does something with 'compress old files' but it doesn't delete the files and I'm not positive it compresses them.

However, I always select it and haven't had problems on any PC where I've done that. It takes just this side of forever to run the first time, quite a while the 2nd, but after 3-4 regular cleanings (maybe once a week or something) it runs in a couple of seconds.

Some others on here always suggest not checking that item and their systems are running OK as well so I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

And FWIW, moving a thread just takes a couple of seconds so post them where you think they should be and don't worry about it.

    Compress Old Files

My understanding of this is that the degree of compression is very small and the amount of disk space freed up is minimal. On this basis it's not worth doing - especially, as Newt posts, it takes for ever the first time around.

    Thanks for the help!

When I first got my computer my son set it up with two users ( my wife and I). Later we dropped the password sign in but never cleaned out her temp files. That was where that Bad file was ( Disk clean up would not touch that file) I run system tools (disk cleaner & Defragmenter ) every 2 to 3 days. Also I run all my Virus, ad-awar, Spybot, norton ,AVG, microsoft spyware remover ,spyware blaster, spy guard. and all my other check every day. Maybe this is overkill but I did have problems in the past and I am a little Paranoid. Thank you all again for your help having you persons on the back burner and ready to help just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. Lenny Chowns
