first off, id like to thank those who replied to my last thread regarding my friends cd-rom driver errors, the solution worked a treat and he has now sold it without the defect. you were all very helpful.

so, now i have another problem! although this one is a bit more bizarre.

my incompetent friend was enjoying an inpromptu internet session during a gathering at my flat, and managed to spill vodka and juice on my laptop. i shat myself, and dried it out, upside down. once turned on in the morning, it all seemed to work fine. the only problem i have is that some of the keys are slightly stick and/or stiff, they work, but take a bit more effort to press and its a little tedious.

now, on the net ive heard of people removing their keys to clean under them. im convinced the stickiness is just caused by the sticky juice and an accumulation of dust underneath the keys, so i would like to do this, but i am wary of removing keys if i wont be able to put them back on......
i read somewhere that you can remove them all except the space bar because of some kind of device under it...is this correct?

basically, my question is thus: has anyone had any experience cleaning laptop keyboards? can i remove the keys? any suggestions on how to clean the cack out from under the keys?

ill post a picture of my keys too, so you know what they look like.

cheers for the links, although i was kind of hoping that maybe there was someone on here who had an idea of how fool proof and dangerous taking the keys off would be? anyone ever done it before? its kinda pissing me off at the moment, and as far as i can see i have 3 possible courses of action:

1)clean under them or as far as i can get under them with a wet cloth or a cotton bud or something
2)try and take the keys off, testing it with one i dont use much first, then clean the board and keys and click em back on
3)leave it and hope that over time, the constant use (its on basically ALL the time) will erode the stickyness.

any reccommendations or personal experience that could throw light on the best path?

    Hi Matt,

I did it recently on my son-in-law's Dell laptop, and I was amazed how easy it proved to be. I don't know however, if your keyboard dismounts in the same way. On the Dell all the keys are mounted together on a sort of mounting frame, and this simply snapped out with carefully applied pressure from a knife blade on one end.
    Good luck,

    Roger :p
