    Hello everyone!

Somehow earlier this evening I lost one folder from my from my primary mail account. I have already tried the solutions for lost mail, but that was not successful. If there is something else I can do to recover the folder I would like to know what it is. I have searched high and low for it and can't find it anywhere on my computer.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Tom

PS. Feel free to e-mail me directly.

    Welcome to the Forum, LostFolder!

    Tom,

May I assume then, that you have looked in the Mail Account folder on the HD, and that folder doesn't appear? That is really, really, strange!

If that folder isn't listed on the HD, then we must assume it is gone. Do you back up your Profile frequently? If so, if you have a recent backup, then copy that folder from the backup to the Mail Account folder on your HD. Ensure that your application is closed before doing this edit.

What application are you using for Mail & Newsgroups, and what OS?

    More info:

    Ramona,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have looked and it is not to be found at the following address which is where I would expect to find it:

    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\username\*.slt\Mail\mail.earthlink.net

Nor is it in my alternate mailbox. Is it truly gone or is it somewhere on my HD that I can't find or get to?

I did not know I could back up my profile so that option is not available to me. How do you do that anyway?

I guess that folder is gone which is bad enough, but I'm really upset because I don't know why it happened. I'm using WinME, but have WinXP Pro ready to install once I upgrade the HD. I hope that doesn't turn into another nightmare.

If you have any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

    Tom

PS. If I accidentally compacted the folder where would it be and can if be recovered?

    Tom,

Have you done a "Find" for the folder? Start | Find | Files or Folders

To back up a Profile, navigate to the Profiles folder, right click, and select: Copy

Create a Backup folder on the HD. Name it anything you wish, e.g., C:\Backup

Right click the C:\Backup folder and select: Paste
Now you have a current backup.

If you compacted the folder, it shouldn't disappear, as compacting compresses the folder, but doesn't delete the folder. In fact, it's a good idea to compact your folders on a fairly frequent basis. Take a look at the "Preventive Browser Maintenance" link at the top of the Forum.

If you are about to install another OS, you definitely want to back up your Profile.

    Ramona,

Thanks for all your help. That folder is lost and I am moving on! I had hard copies of most everything in the folder, but I'm still upset I lost it.

    Take care...

    Tom
