    Hi,

    I am novice to the BBS and know very little about networking as such. Therefore, I would really apprecaite it if you can help resolve the following situation:

    ++The following in my networking set up++

    - 2 computers, a desktop and a laptop, connected to a router.

    Computer - ( Operating system, Name, Workgroup Name, IP Address)
    Desktop - (windows 2000, Optimal-1, WORKGROUP, 192.168.0.100)
    Laptop - (windows XP, NIETZSCHE, Mshome, 192.168.0.101)

    - The router to a broadband modem.
    - The cable exiting the braodband modem to the DSL socket in the wall.

    I can access the internet on both the computers, and each is protected by Norton Internet Security system with a Personal Firewall.

    ++This is what I want to do++

    Copy the contents of a folder on the Desktop of the desktop onto the laptop. However, I am unable to view the other computer in the network neighberhoods. What should I do?

    ++I have already tried this++

    - I have tried setting the laptop ip as a "trusted" in the Norton Internet Firewall of the desktop and viceversa.

    - I have tried "add a network place" but the laptop says
    \\Optimal-1\C:\...\Desktop is invalid and viceversa

    Thanks in advance.

    Try making both machines of the same domain. Either MS_HOME or WORKGROUP.
