Evidently my wab32.dll had become corrupt and after replacing it and getting my registry and address book back where I wanted it, the Address Book didn't have any of my folders except the main Identity. My sub folders or groups were missing. After moving and importing them there several times and rebooting etc. I decided to manually put them back. But when I typed the folder name (Class of 59) a box flashed up "An entry with that name already exist in your address book. It does not show up, nor do the address that are in the sub folders. I have moved and installed them in different places and adjusted the registry like the help files tell you to several time. It didn't completly work this time.

This sure is a new one on me.

    OE Address Book Wierd

Thanks Goddez1, I tried, but there is no options in my address book under Tools or anything else. I tried just using the Address.wab in the registry and that didn't work. But, you may have help me find the problem by looking elsewhere. The problem started after going though several hours with IT upgrading my mission control. Now I notice my OE heading says "Inbox - Outlook Express provided by StarBand - Main Identity ". I don't remember if it was different before the upgrade, but I think it said "Microsoft Outlook Express ". It still does say that in the help about file.

    Thanks

Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express are completely different email clients. OE is part of the standard OS load along with IE but Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office.

Do you have Microsoft Office installed?

    OE Address Book

Yes I do I believe it is Office 97. I thought I had OE AB figured out, but didn't. Every thing shows I'm using OE 6 and IE 6. I still have a backup copy of the Address book. If I put my address book some else and direct the registry to get it there, I still have the same problem.

It's probably a simple fix, just haven't figured it out yet.

Try going into MS Office and opening the Outlook email client. Take a look at the address book / contact list there and see if your missing folders show up. If so there is a fairly simple way to import them back into OE.

    OE Address Book Lost folders

I was hoping you had something, but I opened Office and then Microsoft Outlook and then the address book and it didn't have much of anything in it. I opened word to send an e-mail from there and OE came up. I don't know anywhere else to look or check out.

If you get anymore ideas let me know.
    Thanks

    OE Address Book ghost folders

For those that have been checking back. I have been able to get all of my addrsses in the OE address book. I selected all and deleted and then imported from a backup book. All contacts are back, but when I try to put the name of the folder back it says it already exist. Is there any way to delete these ghost folders?

Really beginning to smell like corruption somewhere.

What OS are you running? What browser version?

Two things I'd suggest at this point then.

First a very general, not gonna hurt anything or cause you work, thing. Click on start, on run, key in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and click OK. System File Checker will scan for missing or damaged system files and replace any it finds. You may be asked to put your XP install CD in the drive. This process often cures strangness in XP.

If that doesn't work, you may well be dealing with a corrupt user profile and if so, other things will probably start going wrong. The process to deal with this is a little longer and involves a little more work on your part but isn't that major a deal IMO.

    OE Address Book

    Newt,
Thanks, I tried the scannow and it didn't work. But, I found the address book coming up like it is supose to when I send a fax out of Office. It still doesn't come up right when I e-mail out of Office. I guess I need to figure out where the fax keeps the book and try to configure all there. I don't send faxes very often and that may be where it got switched. At least I think the fax program highjicked it. Not sure what to do now.
    Thanks

    Another idea for you.

    - Export the contents of your address book.
    - Rename the existing address book to something else so it is out of the way.
    - Create a new (blank) address book by opening OE.
    - Import the stuff you exportedd.

This should give you a good address book with only the stuff you exported in it - none of the phantom stuff.

One other thought - how large are your mail store folders? Any of them really huge?

Following your pointers, here's how I did it:

Moving/copying the Windows Address Book to a new PC
    On the old PC:
    1. Go to the Windows Address Book file and open it.
    [In Win98 the file is at "C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\[name].wab]
    2. Use "File | Export | Address Book (WAB)…" to export [all of] the address book to a ".wab" file in a location of your choosing.
    3. Copy [or move] that file to the new PC.
    4. Open both Address Book files on the new PC.
It may be more sure to first make your various identities on the new PC and go into each identity in turn and open the address book there to do the work.
    5. With both Address Books open [copy of the old + the new]:
    6. In the new address book, manually make new folders. These can be identical in name to the old folders, or you could alter them.
    7. In the old book, open a folder and highlight all the contacts you want to transfer and copy them [CTRL+C].
    8. In the new book, highlight the folder and copy to it [CTRL+V].
    9. Click enter to accept each new contact [you can do it rapidly = enter, enter, enter].
    10. Repeat this for each folder in the book.
