    It's been a while since I've worked in win98se :confused: reloaded the os after a serious error on the hard drive. All went well with install except now when I open windows explorer the left side of the tree is greyed out :mad: tried all my old tricks (4) geez it's hard to fall off the xp os, eh? Ideas? :D

    Thanks goddez1 for the reply. the 4 in my post was I only had that many tricks in win98se :D . I solved the prob tho :eek: ! Should have known better then to install quickbooks pro ver2k4 as it installed (I wasn't monitoring close) ie6, wrong ver: & soooooo blah. I just redid my thing & back to old ver: etc etc :)
    gosh I'm spoiled in xp, eh?

    Hi Rancher,

    When asking about the "4 ", I was hoping you would list the 4 things you have tried. Knowing this would have opened a dialog for things you had not tried. It looks like both of us are guilty of not being specific enough.

    I am glad that you eventually figured this out and have found your fix, though. I am most happy to see that you have returned to your post to share the fix. While not specific, it does "point the finger at" or pins this down to what the culprit was, Quickbooks and versonitus. Just out of curiousity, did you try the registry edit as my previous link indicated? How about the suggestion to run "IE's repair function "? <-I assume you did this (IE repair) but assuming is what lead me to be sloppy/lazy/ "less than thorough" in here in the first place. ( "here" meaning inside this post.) :)

    Thanks for the update, and your most welcome for the reply even though it didn't apply. You can't win 'em all, I tried... :)
