Suddenly two days ago upon startup I get a message: "qttask.exe cannot find disk." I can cancel the message, but it reappears on the next startup. What is qttask and why does it want a disk?

It's an annoying and unnecessary item that QuickTime sticks in your Startups. You can stop it by either deleting the Registry entry it places at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or else use MSCONFIG to deselect it from the Startup tab.

I prefer cleaning it from the Registry but either way is fine. Frankly, I'm not a QuickTime fan and I keep it off my computers entirely. Never miss it.

qttask.exe is for Quicktime. If you don't use Quicktime uninstall it or delete the qttask.exe. The message should disappear. I'm not sure why it's wanting a disk.

Sounds like it did not finish installing correctly in the first place or an update failed online.
