    Great info you gave me.

    Yes I know the old Tiger Eye / PIIX3 - And for Win95a (this covers initial OEM editions or the W95 Upgrade) you need the Piix3 driver support.

    ( If you choose to do a clean install of W95b this would be a non-issue as PIIX3 is native PnP supported in W95b.)

    Here is what you need: swr065aa.exe - PIIX3 Bus Master IDE drivers for Windows 95a

    Note: Run "setup.exe" to install

    Good luck with it.

    Profgab101,
    Thanks for that......swr065aa.
    I saw it while I was snooping around GW, but I passed it up. Even though it's for PIIX3, the info doesn't list my MB, AND it says toshiba 8x, AND the install notes are kinda screwy.
    I'll give it a try in the next day or 2, I want to clean install (again) since there's too much useless clutter in there now from all the changes I tried.
    Actually, I was thinking about installing 98se instead of 95, but I'm not done experimenting, especially since you think this file will do the trick.
    Thanks again, I'll post my results.

    little update:
    I haven't done much with the gateway......too busy at work. They got me on heavy OT...10hrs.,7days/week...needless to say, after welding that much, I have no desire to even think about a monitor, let alone look at one. My eyes are very tired...burning and dry.
    Anybody got any recommendations for a good quality 17 "-19" LCD? I'm looking for one that's EZ on the eyes and pocketbook, but I need top quality for photo repairs. I'm currently working with a 17" CRT but it's just too big for my work area. I also have a KDS and a Proview LCD, but the display quality sux so I don't use them.
    Some reviews say Samsung 19" LCD is exceptional but the price tag is way out there.....I see wallyworld is selling them for about $450(after rebate).
    Is there anything better out there? I don't mind spending 450, but the color and resolution better be really good. I can't afford to sit for hours editing a photo that looks perfect on screen but comes off the printer looking like cow dung.....savvy?

    Anyway, the last thing I did with the gateway, was change some INf's. I added some lines to ID the MB and chipset. I don't know if I messed up, misspelled something, or what. The doggone thing went totally haywire and I now have the following errors at startup;
    invalid vxd dynamic link call from pci (02)
    00007B3E to device "VMM ", service 194
    invalid vxd dynamic link call from pci (02)
    00007B46 to device "VMM ", service 195
    windows configuration is invalid, run win setup.... blah blah blah

    and at shut down I have;
    00007B8E to device "configmg" service B5..... blah blah blah

    I'm lost....too many other things on my mind to figure this out.

    Now since I got busy at work and haven't had the time or desire to play, I forgot what changes I last made to which INF's. I keep notes on this stuff, but my notebook has become a jumbled mess and now I can't make hide nor hair of it.

    I'm about to give it up....wipe the HD clean and install 98se, but now I can't make the cdrom work to read the CD........even in dos. The only way I can get it to work, somewhat properly, is to plug the cdrom into the same ribbon as the HD, and make it a slave, but I don't want to do that, just because I'll have to change it afterward.
    Anybody know exactly how to make a set of floppies from the CD? I mean a fully automated set, so the disks load themselves and ask me for the next disk in the sequence.....by disk ID#.
    Can I even do it using my good XP machine to read the CD and write the floppies?
    If the XP machine won't work, or it's a pain in the butt.....I have another 95a machine that I could use to read the CD and write the floppies.
    What's the easiest and best thing to do here.....and how?

    Thanks ;)
