I am curious, I am using NAV 2003 and keeping up with all the updates and it seems to be doing the job but since this version is 2 years old does the later version offer anything that I cannot get in the way of additional protection that I can't get in 2003 ? Any opinions ?
I know what the obvious answer from Symantec would be but I would like some honest thoughts.
    Thanks

I used NAV2001 until about a month ago when my subscription outdated. Synmnatec no longer supports NAV 2001 supscriptions, so I updated to NAV2004 which I had lying around. I can't see any real advantage over 2001 unless you can call NAV's annoying habit of trying to phone home for LiveUpdates everytime I start the computer a plus. (I disabled this wonderful feature BTW).

You might find however, that it is cheaper to upgrade (due to rebates) than update your subscription. Newer versions of NAV offer internet protection (Firewall, spam filter, etc.) which you may or may not want.

A lot of users are going to other brands of security products as Norton stuff can be somewhat problematical for some users. (Just my opinion, I really don't have a problem with NAV2004 except as stated above.) I don't use their NIS products.

Budo--in today's Sunday supplements from Staples and CompUSA there are offers for Norton AntiVirus free (after rebates) . Remember, NAV also comes with System Works and NIS and you can selectively install only NAV from them if you wish.
You can see these offers and perhaps more in
    http://www.salescircular.com/
In theory, the AntiVirus people improve the "engine" (program) from time to time, so there could be advantages to getting a newer version. Improved "heuristics" are one of the buzz words. But I do not know if that is true, and the latest virus definitions usually work in old engines.

    Budo,

I also used an older version until they stopped supporting it. I just kept paying for the renewal, until recently. I still use Norton's but their renewal charges are getting higher. With the rebates, mentioned above, I went out and bought NAV 2005. Got it free and it's bundled with Norton's GoBack program. I only need NAV with XP but use SystemWorks with my 98 system. I'll be watching the sales/rebates for SystemWorks 2005 when my 98 system expires this Fall. If I can find it pretty cheap, after rebates, I'll just buy new. Otherwise, I'll renew. With the continuous updates from Symantec, I don't worry about needing the most to date version. The updates get you there.

    Thanks gentlemen for your replys.
My main concern was if I was using an older version of NAV (2003) that I would be missing out on some features of the later editions.
Don't know how much longer that Symantec will be be offering updates to the 2003 version but that s always a chance you take.
I do have the 2002 version of Norton Utilities which I use as needed and again I don't know if the new System Works has any improvements over my version.
I have Roxio Go Back which I bought right before it was taken over by Symantec and it has saved my neck more that once.
I use Zone Alarm for a firewall so I'm confident that I am covered from that angle.
Any how thanks for the good feed back.

I still use NAV 2003 cause I don't need any features in newer NAV versions. In fact, I don't use any features in NAV 2003 except Live Update & rt click scans, all auto features are disabled.

Just cause Norton stops supporting an earlier version of NAV doesn't mean you have to stop using it. It means that there will be no more program updates, but there will still be virus definitions available to get via Live Update or manual downloads.
