    Hi,
I help teach Senior Citizens the basics of the internet and email. Today I was showing them how to copy a web address that was in the email if it wasn't blue and underlined (hypertext). We were in the Outlook Express email that was received and they highlighted the address, then went to edit, clicked "copy ".
Then opened Internet Explorer, clicked in the address line, went to Edit and "Paste" was not highlighted so they could not paste the web address in the address box.

We use six different computers. Four of the people were not able to copy and paste but two of the six computers worked perfectly.

Can you please tell me how I can fix this problem, if possible.

    Thanks.

    Jean

What version of windows are they running? Can you copy from OE and paste into something other than IE like notepad? Can you copy from another app into IE? Try creating a text file and see if you can copy and paste from that into IE. If not, try pasting the text file contents into another text file. It would help if you'd experiment a bit in this way so we can determine if it's an OE, IE problem or if copy and paste is broke all together.

Since 2 of 6 could properly copy and paste, it sounds like problems either
    1) specific to the individual running the problem PC's (did you try to do it on these PC's?) or
    2) corruption of the specific PC's OE installation. What version of OE/IE/Windows is involved?
Was the email address in the email itself or in the header or where?

I'll have to get back to you next week with some of the answers to your questions. They are all running Windows XP, IE 6.0.

I'll check out next week if I can copy and paste from OE to Wordpad and get back to you.

I have a feeling that the Windows Program is not working correctly as many of the people that are learning don't know what they are doing and may delete or change things on these computers.

I'll get back to you. Thanks.

    Jean

P.S. By the way, the email address we were copying was in the text of the message, as I was trying to show them how to copy a web address and paste it in the address line of IE.

    Hi everyone.

Thanks for all your help. They (Cares Senior Center) has someone hired to update all these computers as they are really old and not working well. They are re-installing the windows program plus other programs, so I'm sure after all this work is done, we will be able to copy and paste.

    Thanks for your help.
