Anybody know what would be the best speakers to hook up to a computer if all it is going to be used for is music? I came up with these two so far. Is one better than the other? Are there better speakers in this type of configuration?

    Thanks

    Rockit,
I sure hope you have a GOOD Power supply, if the figures given are true.

From my Tech days, way back when I was in the audio business, 200watts of RMS (using a Sine Wave) could sure burn out some voice coils real fast! Let alone the drain on an inefficient power supply.

I've found that some of these specs given are a little misleading, if one weren't too well versed on tech side of what these specs really mean. (I'd like to see the engineering specs onboth of these items for comparison purposes.)

My Personal opinion of the two you mentioned is, I'd take the Klipsch over the Logitech any day.

    Good luck.

Here you go Rockit - 1943 pricing too. These babies were so efficient, one could drive them with a small transistor radio circa 1950's.

Tough to beat those old tube Mac's, huh?

If I had the room - I'd have Voice of the Theaters in my den today. Think Rockit should go this route and keep us posted?

    ;)

I went to the store and cranked up both these puppy's till I had everyone giving me dirty looks and...

    I'm not impressed at all.

My OLD 100 watt per channel amp that was given to me cause the only thing that kinda works is the AUX. input. And a pair of OLD 3 way bass reflex pioneer speakers sound allot better and give me more thumpin action.

I need to find out where to get a couple of those speakers that Rockster posted and a new amp (200 watts per channel).

    Cheers

    Thanks irdreed,
Those are the speakers I tried out at the store a couple day's ago. I just don't get it. Eveybody tells me how great they sound and they get high marks in the reviews, but I'm not impressed.

The best price I found on the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, which gets the best reviews for music, is here:

    http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/shop/detail.asp?dpno=968596

I'm going to ask my friends, and look around at garage sales, for a AMP and I'll be all set. I have lot's of old speakers that will work just fine.

    Cheers

Hehehe .......... Are we having fun yet? Starting to make me cry a bit. I have a blown channel on my main power amp that needs to be repaired but couldn't pass up the opportunity to comment. Bi-Amped w/Marantz & Yamaha, 275' monster cable in the walls, Dahlquist, Marantz, Boze & Yamaha for speakers and thats just the den - hehehe ........ After reading your post, going to get my amp fixed when I get back home.

Listening to the speakers is probably the best way. Some tones will be featured more than others (which can depend on the housing). It may also depend on the size of the room they will be in and the furnishings, etc. When I chose my speakers I had the choice of "bassy" ones that I would have chosen for Rock music, but decided on "clear" ones that would highlight a full range of tones (like listening to a symphony in a concert hall). Of course, you get what you pay for, but if you are limited in how much you can spend, let your ears decide.

    Rockster,

You have this hooked up to your computer? Holy **** !!! And I thought I was the only unstable one around here

Maybe it's time to move my main stereo down by the computer. Would probably make my girlfriend happy to get my Monster Speakers out of her way. They are 5 way, 15" bass, aluminum pizo tweeters, 8" poly mid range, acousticly suspended, Giants with top firing midrange and 2nd tweeter that have their own volume adjustment. They have gold connectors and each one is fused. But I still need a better amp to drive them. Probably 200 watts per channel should do. I believe they are rated for 250 watts each. They have a 2nd set of inputs for biampin the bass.

Pretty slick for $250 delivered from DAK. :D

160Watt USB powered speakers ROFL

    ==

send the computer's sound through your main HiFi - whatever suits your ears for playing CDs will likely work well for your computer (NB both these sources have the potential to leak digital muck into the amplifier input, some amps are more tolerant to this than others)

if you want to experiment (without breaking the bank) - try different sound cards - there's significant variation in sound character & quality between them...

    best wishes, HJ

QuadII / Videoton Minimax (hardly deafening but ahhh sweet sounding), homebrew preamps, mixer etc., 2x Hacker Sovereigns for "portable" - bathroom, garden etc...
