    Greetings.

    For the past few days now, after a few hours inbetween when I have NS open, when I start it, it brings up this page

    http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/7/su_setup701.jsp

    Netscapes Welcome Set-Up page, instead of the home page I have set it for which is yahoo.com. This is happining on both of my drives, one for 98SE and other for XP.

    I cant find this page listed in my bookmarks, ,no place on the Edit-Pref pages.
    If I click the home button, it takes me to yahoo just fine, and if I close it, then open it again a little while later its fine, its just not fine when I leave it for a few hours. Then I open NS, and I get it again.

    I empty cache, clear history/recent files. I have done a virus check, ,and adware check, all clean.

    Whats up with this??

    I have version

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20021120 Netscape/7.01 (CK-SillyDog)

    Thanks

    Are you sharing a profile between different versions on NS and/or OS....?

    So, you looked in Edit|Prefs and looked in Navigator| in the Home page(middle of the page), and selected Current page after getting into Yahoo, and it does not hold? I, honestly, don't know if the page should be listed or not. Also, if you had selected to use that website during that installation, you could have that problem. But, I always make sure to have that item unchecked when I install. If things don't work out as I described, uninstall NS from your Add/Remove, and then reinstall it, making sure that you look carefully, as you go from one page to another. Everything else should remain in place,otherwise.

    Ive had NS installed for several months now with yahoo as start page, this just started happing a few days ago.

    I did download NS's dial up service program for a friends comp Im putting it on, but I never started the install, I put it on a cd to install on her comp.

    Very strange...
    Usually.......
    this redirect usually results when you are sharing profile or versions:

    when you start NS/MOZ it checks the prefs.js file for:

    user_pref( "browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone ", "rv:1.x.x ");
    where "rv:1.x.x "=moz version that NS was/is based on.

    If it is different from the version that you are starting it redirects to the appropriate page.....

    The problem you ar experiencing does not make much sense to me if you are not bouncing back and forth between versions and profiles.

    I do not have 7.01 installed any longer, but will try and come up with something

    In any event, a I made a suggestion, to get the desired home, and then change the Home Page. I don't see anything in the reply which says that anything was tried. Anyway Netscape 7.01 should have a mozilla rv.1.01. The profile location in Win98 is: C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\ probably default

    I checked the prefs.js file and looked for this line and heres what I have..

    user_pref( "browser.startup.homepage ", "http://www.yahoo.com/ ");
    user_pref( "browser.startup.homepage_override ", false);
    user_pref( "browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone ", "rv:1.0.2 ");

    Seems to be correct. Opened NS this morning, started fine... so far. I'll do another adaware scan this mornin too to make sure.

    I want to avoide a reinstall if at all possible but Im prepaired to do that too.

    Thanks all

    Your info tells me that Yahoo is the home page, and it uses NS7.02, and not 7.01. Check Help|About Netscape to confirm the version number. You should also check the Control Panel| Add/Remove list. It should tell you what have installed.

    In Basstracker's first post, the UA from Netscape is posted.
    Presumably, Basstracker is using Netscape 7.01, not 7.02.

    To me rv.1.02 means 7.01. However, I don't what it means, otherwise.

    I am getting confused....
    The UA that you posted would indicate ( to me anyway)
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20021120 Netscape/7.01 (CK-SillyDog)

    that you are running NS 7.01 on win98 OS

    You mentioned that you also have XP on that machine......
    with XP your UA string would be different.....
    Something like:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U;Windows NT 5.1;; en-US; rv:1.0.2)
    Gecko/20021120 Netscape/7.01 (CK-SillyDog)

    AT least that is how it looks to me.....

    Not knowing HOW you installed NS on two drives I can't give you much as far as how to fix it.....

    I looks to me like there is some shareing going on somplace but I can't replicate it.

    sorry that I can't be more help.

    regards:captjlddavis

    I had to satisfy myself with a search. Rv.1.01 is 7.0, 1.02 is 7.01, and have gotten no info about 7.02. I just can't remember that far back.
    Since 7.02 just a security update, there may be no difference in information.
    But, I am totally hazy on the entire thing, and the release notes are not so enlightening.

    Yes, looking at a UserAgent from Netscape 7.02, it appears to be also based on Mozilla 1.0.2.

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20030208 Netscape/7.02

    I bolded the Gecko revision information.
