Well... first off I have always loved Netscape. I have fought trying to understand this new NS beta 8 and for the most part I've come up short. It does not seem to remember settings and it generally makes things difficult to figure out.. at least for non-technical types like me. Mozilla on the other hand is essentially Netscape 7.2 with vulnerabilities patched and with hideous icons. BUT I am quickly gravitating to this latest Mozilla simply because is it so much like my beloved Netscape and relatively easy to configure. In other words... it is much more user-friendly. Just a few rambling comments. Have a good day, folks.

    James,

First off... Netscape8 is a 'Beta', the program is still in development. So anytime you run beta software you can expect problems to pop up.
As to Mozilla, I believe that would be a better choice, Netscape has never been the same since version 4.7 (IMO). There are many 'themes' available to change the look of Mozilla and some of them are pretty cool. :D
If you don't need all the extras that come in the Mozilla 'suite' consider Firefox and Thunderbird (if you need an email client). There are themes available for both of these also.
Isn't Netscape going to get put out to pasture before too long?? HTH

    B

Mr.B. Netscape undertook a complete rewrite , since the 4.xx days, and the latter plain does not work in some cases. The later Netscapes have been derived from the Mozillas, except that AOL did not upgrade their NS7.2 (from Mozilla1.7.2).
And, I agree with James that the Mozilla icon is hideous. But, I don't have to look at it. I make Firefox my default browser. No splash screen, which is awful, and the shortcut can be handled easily. So, it is a poor excuse to reject Mozilla on the basis of ugliness.
And NS8 beta, beside being beta, it parallels Firefox, so it can't be compared with Mozilla of any type. They claim that there will be a separate Netscape Mail client to parallel Thunderbird. So, if one can accept Firefox+Thunderbird, it is possible that NS8+ whatever client could be acceptable.
In spite of the fact that both NS8 and Mozilla1.8 are beta, the latter has gone through a longer trial period.
I thoroughly dislike some of the "features" which are being pushed by AOL. If some people could not tolerate the appearance of harmless AOL shortcut, a larger group will dislike NS8. Mickey Mouse is an insult to the beloved cartoon character.
As for Moz1.8. All I know that it does not work as well as Moz1.7.5.

Hey, Westside. How's it going? Anyway... PW in "another" forum asked a pertinent question.

"Why does this new beta browser render "trusted sites" in the IE engine? What possible advantage could there be to make that switch for the user automatically rather than allow the user to manually make the browser switch on every and all websites?"

I understand it as a suggestion for those websites, knowing that they will work best with the IE engine. I don't know why the sites are entered, in first place.
But, I don't see that all sites are trusted. I am afraid that people jump at something without taking a good look. The site controls has a Trust preferences tab, and the settings there should override what you see. The site list does not have any "trusted sites ". I sure can't see that. There are master settings and list setting, plus the tab. I can't understand what people are getting worked up about.
