I know about the dead pixel debate and how to find out if you have any.

My question is about what I'll call "Ghosting "

On my new LCD .. in the upper corners and outer edges of the screen .. They look bleached out somewhat?

Kinda a white ghosting effect. Other people don't see or notice it but I do cause I use black as my desktop background.

I tried turning the brightness and contrast down but that doesn't seem to have any effect on the ghosting of the corners and sides.

The place I got it from is willing to look at it but won't answer the question "Is This Normal or Not "

I'm questioning myself and wondering if I'm just being picky.

    Any Thoughts?
    Thanks

Yes, I know what you mean :)

I would try looking at the POST screens. These are a true(?) black background. There are only standard drivers being run. It is not a "picture ". Nothing should be interferring.

If you have splash screens running at startup, you will need to press a key to see behind them, then, press Pause to stop at that screen (during Windows boot press the Esc key to see behind the Windows splash screen).

I don't think the LCD will match the CRT that you were used to.

STILL, it is important that you be happy that it is not a "fault" or it will always be in the back of your mind.

    Matt
PS "Ghosting" is due to the remnants of previous frames. It is a problem with LCDs and does not sound like what you are experiencing. You may wish to call it something like a "washed-out effect ", otherwise you may mislead someone who is trying to visualize the problem.

this is a common issue with LCDs. Look at reviews like this one: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1764461,00.asp They actually test for that effect, because on some LCDs its pretty bad.

As a fellow white on black high-viz windows user, i feel your pain re: lcd black levels. That is the reason i have a big mitsubishi CRT on my desk still instead of an LCD, although a pair of those dell 24's are tempting me. LCDs look good when displaying colors and white, they just dont do as well with a black background. Limitation of the technology, theres a little flourecent bulb behind the panel giving you the backlighting. The better designed the enclosure and diffusor, the flatter the image luminance

I have an IIyamma Prolite and also use black desktops. I do not experience this problem at all, using DVI or VGA.

I think you have a decent case for exchanging that screen. What model is it?

Where I work we have some TFTs that are not so good and a few of them have problems at the edge of the screen, shimmering and weak picture as well as a little blurring.

As far as I am aware (please correct me if I am wrong) the term Ghosting is used for TFTs to descibe the blurring you get when playing fast games on TFTs with a response time of 25ms+. So it may casue some confusion if you call this ghosting.

    Silverwork,

It's a AG Neovo F-419 that I bought from ZipZoomFly. At least they answer their email. More than I can say for most of these web retailers. Your right .. it's not Ghosting it's more of a bleached out effect. They are willing to look at it and replace if found defective. But won't tell me if this is a defect or not? I think I'll go for it and see what happens.

    Thanks For All Your Reply's
