I have an ASUS A7n8x-Deluxe mobo that i recently added two maxtor 120gb sata hdds too. They are configured as a RAID0 volume. It will not use the sata hdd as the primary boot dev when there is an IDE HDD present. Is there any way to change this.

    TMAC1961 - Welcome to the Board :)

I don't use SATA myself, but to get you started before someone else responds make a forum search (use Advanced Search) for SATA - in thread titles only. There a number of posts there of relevance.

Should be a simple setting in your BIOS re: what HDD order is in the boot sequence. Note - this isn't the setting re: where HDD in general sits in the boot sequence, but a setting that will let you select the HDD boot order among all your HDD's.

    ;)

What Rockster2U says is my experience with the ASUS P4P800. I downloaded the manual for the A7N8X-Deluxe to verify but I didn't find a submenu anywhere to select a specific harddisk.

What happens if You disconnect the IDE harddisk, does the computer boot? I think that I know the answer from what You say in Your first post but I had to ask ...... ...... this is very confusing.

How are the harddisks displayed during post and from within the BIOS? I believe Rockster2U is knows more about RAID than I do because he can't possibly know less than nothing ...... :D ...... !

    Sata Booting Problem

When the IDE drive is removed the system boots to the raid set just fine. When you add the IDE in it only tries to boot from the IDE. It doesn't matter what drive you set to boot to first in the bios. I have tried all available combos in the bios. I think I need to upgrade the BIOS. To do that I need to find what version mobo I have.

Thank you for all the help.

Thats because that drive, when added, is recognized as HDD 0 and when its not there, your SATA drive is recognized as HDD 0. Could be that you don't have a setting to adjust the HDD boot order, however, I believe its there, you just haven't found it yet and its not the normal boot device options where its going to be found. Again, I'm somewhat handicapped right now but ......... I'd certainly concur, A BIOS upgrade isn't going to hurt you. If you download and install the latest version of Everest, it will give you your BIOS version, among other things. You should also be able to see this on start up but may need to use shift Pause to freeze your screen long enough to read it. I know this is frustrating, but hang in there - its resolvable. Sorry I can't provide more help at this point in time.

If you go into the bios and eliminate that drive from the boot up it shouldn't conflict. I have an old machine with Raid1 and the other HD isn't listed at all. I only have three boot devices so mine says
(1)floppy, or CD I have to change the first one once in awhile.
    (2)Raid100,
    (3)Raid100

That's very correct for a machine when one is trying to boot from IDE 3 or 4 with something like a Highpoint Controller but I think this ASUS board is a little different with the serial ATA controller.
