    Hi,

I have a small home network including a server that I need to be able to manage remotely. Recently I discovered that this could easily be achieved using Computer Management and connecting to a remote machine.

The server machine runs Windows XP Professional and I have enabled Remote Desktop in its system properties. The problem is that most of the time when I connect to the server from another machine on the same network and try to access the server resources I get the error message "Access is denied ". So far I have only been able to connect a couple of times!

I know that the server is available on the network because I able to access its shares etc.

Anyone know what causes this error message?

    Regards Basher

Control Panel->System->Remote tab->are both options checked?

Do you XP's firewall turned on?

    Hi,

I tried enabling both as suggested but got the same problem! I do not use Windows firewall but do use Norton firewall, however, I have already tried to disable this but got the same problems.

My installation of Windows XP has been modified to that of a standard install in order to improve security, for instance I do not run the Windows messenger service. It is possible that I have disabled other services (using a small application called xp-Antispy) which may be the cause of the problem.

    Looking into it now.

    Regards Basher.

I think this issue is part of the problem you posted about Here and double posting gets confusing so I'm closing this thread. Lets keep it all in the other one.
