    Hi All,

After upgrading to Firefox 1.0.1 from an uninstalled FF 1.0, I had some trouble getting my old Bookmarks. Finally got 'em. In the process it seemed that there was no way to get to Profile Manager to insert new Profile names. Am I correct? It used to be that going from Start | Program Files | Netscape or Mozilla | Program Manager allowed one to create, delete, or change the profile names. What am I missing? Thank you.

I did not need a new profile to go from 1.0 to 1.01. The path to the profiles is:C:\Documents and Settings\Fulvio Perini\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles, and I still have the old 0.9 profile, but just another profile with the .slt1.0. If, for some reason you had to create a new profile, or wish to select one, all you need to do is to select the Desktop shortcut|Properties and type in the Target line <keyboard space>-p, and the profile manager will come up. Once you have selected the profile, you can delete the -p. I have nothing there.

    derfsch,

You are correct, there is no Profile Manager listed in Start | Programs | Mozilla Firefox. You can, however, create one manually, and here's how:

Select the START button | Programs | Mozilla Firefox
RIGHT click on Mozilla Firefox in the Sub-folder, and select: Create Shortcut. This will create "Mozilla Firefox (2)" shortcut
RIGHT click on "Mozilla Forefox (2)" and select PROPERTIES.
In the Target line will be the path to the executable
    Something like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe "
    Edit this line to read:
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p
(note there is a space between the last quotation mark ( " ) and the -p
(the -p is not case sensitive).
    Select: Apply | OK

    Right click the shortcut
    Select: Rename
Rename the shortcut to "Firefox Profile Manager ".

If you are running from a ZIP file, there is NO reference to Firefox or Thunderbird in the Programs folder:

Create a shortcut of the *.exe file of either program.
(Located in the folder to which you unzipped the application.)
    Right click the shortcut
    Select: Copy
    Right click on Start
    Select: Open
Paste the shortcut in the Programs list.

    Next:
    Right click the shortcut
    Select: Rename
Rename the firefox.exe/thunderbird.exe file to Firefox/Thunderbird Profile Manager, or whatever you wish.

    Right click the shortcut
    Click on the Shortcut tab.
To the end of the Target path, add one space, then -p
Your path will be wherever you installed the application.
    E.G., C:\Program Files\firefox\firefox.exe -p

    Tip from captjlddavis

This implies that there was no desktop shortcut. I understand that this was not the problem, but rather access to the profile manager.
Is there any difference from what I said in my earlier reply?

    Westside,

Read it again, as it is different from your reply. This puts the Profile Manager in the Start | Programs List. It has nothing to do with the Desktop shortcut.

This is not to say that what you suggested isn't an excellent way to access the Firefox Profile Manager. I was offering another option... :)

    Ramona and Westside,

Each of your suggestions works and after making a desktop shortcut I went through them and installed them on my Firefox. Now I have two methods of getting to Profile Manager.

My thanks to each of you for your help.

Just remember that you can't open the Profile Manager if Firefox is already running. Instead, your Profile Manager shortcut will just open a new FF window.
