Watch for the new Versions of Mozilla, and Thunderbird on the following sites:

    Mozilla 1.7.6
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/
    http://www.mozilla.org/releases/

    Thunderbird 1.0.1
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/
    http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

Mozilla urges all users to upgrade to the new versions on release, as well as upgrading to Firefox 1.0.1, which has been released and available for download here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.0.1/
    http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

These three releases address the Security Vulnerabilities cited in the Secunia Bulletins.

Thanks, Ramona. Were the Security Vulnerabilities, mentioned above, fixed in Mozilla 1.8 Beta 1?

    beanboy,

The UA for string for Mozilla 1.8b1 is:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040625

So, I would say no, if this date is correct, however I did ask on a thread in the netscape.mozilla.firefox, secnews.netscape.com NG if this would change when 1.8 Final comes out. See: FF1.1 based on what ver?

However, that really doesn't answer your question, and I will try to get a definite answer for us... See the netscape.mozilla.general.user.win32, secnews.netscape.com NG: Moz 1.7.6. I posted the question there re: Mozilla 1.8b1.

Thanks. My UA in Mozilla 1.8 beta 1 is:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050217
The one you posted looks like it was from Mozilla 1.7.

The UA for Mozilla1.8b1 which I got is:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050217 same as Beanboy. I am curious about Mozilla1.7.6. I do not see any mention of it at any of the sites. Nor TB1.01, for that matter.

    beanboy and Westside,

I don't know what the heck is going on. I have downloaded a new ZipFile, and unzipped it, only to get the outdated UA string. Removed the Zip install, rebooted, then downloaded the Full Install file from the FTP site. Installed, and I'll be darned if I still don't have the oudated UA string???

The properties sheet of the mozilla.exe file, however, does show the Version to be 1.8b, 2005021712, which is correct. I posted this on the FF NG, and hopefully Lee will give an answer soon.

    beanboy,

The security vulnerabilities have been addressed in 1.8b1 per Mozilla Champion:
    Westside,

Mozilla 1.7.6 is due out this week, and hopefully Thunderbird 1.0.1 will follow shortly. See this MozillaZine Article: http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=6128

I check the mozillazine link, and, it was clear that they were talking in generalities. I have no idea what this statement means: "Next up is likely to be Mozilla 1.8 Beta 1, coming straight from the trunk. A more cutting-edge release, 1.8b1 will be the first non-alpha version to feature the major internal changes that have been completed since 1.7 ". It sounds like double talk.
I guess they mean that 1.8 Beta 1 is not 1.8b1, and 1.8 Beta 1 has a UA based on 1.7, although it says 1.8. This was brought up at another newsgroup.
We can wait. I had already downloaded the zip file for 1.8 whatever, and I don't like it a bit. As all its predecessors from 1.8a5, it has not been compatible with any extention, which I use, and the the Junk Controls were DOA.
    We will see.

Ramona, I use Mozilla browser only, I have 1.7.5 I know nothing about builds and beta stuff. I use the release that is posted on Mozilla.org I went to the web site you gave and have no idea what that is, but I did not see any 1.7.6 Will it say Mozilla 1.7.6 at that site when it is ready or some other name? I use these programs and read what you and others say to do to keep up to date. Thanks for your help.

    Dan,
you go ahead, and keep using what you have. It is the best Mozilla till now. And, I would expect that you would see a notice about any new stable version.
A build is nothing more a version, but there may have been many duds, before it came out. a and b versions are improvements which will lead to a final version. I am using 1.8b, and it went through six a versions, and it is finally at b or final stage. They are moving very slowly with this project, and so at least a couple more b version are expected. For instance, this 1.8b build is 20050217, i.e. it came out on Feb 17, 2005. And the the number 12 indicates that there had been 11 other builds which were not accepted. May be not duds, but there was something better in no.12.
There is no reason to try the new stuff unless you want to see it as a previous of future attractions. But, don't try two versions at the same time, even with different profiles. In the best case, it will not work.

    Dan,

Yes, the Mozilla 1.7.6 Release will be posted on the mozilla.org site. The first listing is for Mozilla 1.8b1, but if you scroll down to the next listing, you will see Mozilla 1.7.5. When 1.7.6 is released, it will be listed there.

It is a Security Release, and Mozilla is urging users to update to the 1.7.6 Version.

I think they mean "1.8 Beta 1" when refering to "1.8b1" and vice-versa. It is just a way of shorting the name of the same release, eg. 1.8a6 and Mozilla 1.8 Alpha 6 were the exact same build.
The MozillaZine text could be translated as: "Next up is Mozilla 1.8 Beta 1, coming straight from the trunk. 1.8 Beta 1 will be the first non-alpha version to feature major internal changes since the Mozilla 1.7.x series was released. "
When it comes to the UA identifing as 1.7, I think it may just be a mistake or bug. I don't think the Mozilla Foundation would intentinally regress the UA to back Mozilla 1.7.
The "Build ID: 2005021712" on Mozilla 1.8 Beta 1 is the date when the build was compiled. The "20050217" is the date of the build, eg. 17 Feb, 2005. If I recall correctly, the "12" indicates the hour of the day the build was made, eg. 12:00 PM. If the Build ID was "2005021718" it would be 17 Feb, 2005, 6:00 PM.

Ramona and Westside, thank you for the info. When I see the Mozilla 1.7.6 there I will download it and install it. I know to uninstall 1.7.5 first. Again thanks for your help

Updating the original "Watch for ", it appears that Mozilla 1.7.6 won't be released until Thunderbird 1.0.1 comes out. It was supposedly due out this week, but only one working day left, so don't hold your breath. No biggie, as these releases are always well worth the wait.
