Security patch also applies to these versions as well:

Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2
Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1
Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 and NT

Yes JohnB, you have to speak MSese to understand how they announce these things.

The reason for the new patch is to correct some problems with XP when running the IE6 browser. Then however, they piggyback it with all previous patches that have applied to other systems as well.

So....you end up with a patch for everyone although many won't need it. To err on the side of caution is a good thing.

Well...until installing an unnecessary patch does a smash to your system.

I haven't noticed any problem installing or since so it's good as far as I know. I do run XP and IE6.
