HELP! I lost my inbox email only about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I still have all my sent email.I was sending email and it all - 900 mesages just vanished. I found out I had a trojan and a virus. Stayed on phone with Bellsouth, Netscape and Norton for hours and hours then days. I Scanned computer and ran the virus checks thru Norton-very expensive!
To make a long story short, can anyone tell me how to get my emails back, I really need them for my business. It still shows I have over 900 emails at the top of screen.I was using netscape 4.5 and my husband was using bellsouth for his email. I upgraded to 7.0 netscape-don't really like it as well, I still use the 4.5.Also, it says I need the rudlll32.exe in windows and I don't have C:/ after my husband ran a virus scan before ll of this about the email. Thanks for the HELP!

Welcome to the Forum, pat roland!

    Pat,

We're going to help you, so calm down and give us more details. Your explanation is somewhat incoherent, so I will ask you some questions, and please answer them in as much detail as possible:

You were using Netscape Communicator 4.5 Messenger for Mail, before the trojan and virus attack, and you are still using Netscape Communicator 4.5 Messenger for Mail?

When you uninstalled Netscape 7.0, how did you get your Mail from 7.0 to Messenger 4.5?

When you checked your HDD for a Messenger Mail folder:
    < path >\Program Files\Netscape\Users\username\Mail

Is this where you see the 900 Sent messages? I have no idea what you mean when you say:
Which screen? Are you looking with Messenger open, or are you look in Windows Explorer?

When you say that you don't have a C:, do you mean that you have Communicator 4.5 on a partition other than the C: drive?

If you are missing the rundll32.exe file, that is a Windows issue, and you need to check that out on the Windows Forums.

Also, you don't say which Version of Windows you are using.

    Ramona

Amyway there is a link to the Symantec (Norton) website which could help. But, as Ramona said, calm down, because it is difficult to help if you don't.

Yes,yes I still use 4.5 for email. I also have 7.0 for email also, Netscape helped me set it up that way.

When you uninstalled Netscape 7.0, how did you get your Mail from 7.0 to Messenger 4.5?

I can use either one, I did'nt uninstall, I installed 7.0 last week with netscape. I click on it's on desk top on the screen for both 4.5 and 7.0.I rather use the 4.5 because it has all my email addresses in it.

When you checked your HDD for a Messenger Mail folder:
    < path >\Program Files\Netscape\Users\username\Mail
    Quote:
It still shows I have over 900 emails at the top of screen

The 900 messages is on the 4.5 at the top of the email list. Messages 900 unread messages 35
I was sending a message in 4.5 when all the 900 just vanished off the screen, just the inbox messages. The sent one are still there.
Which screen? Are you looking with Messenger open, or are you look in Windows Explorer?
    Netscape messenger 4.5

When you say that you don't have a C:, do you mean that you have Communicator 4.5 on a partition other than the C: drive?

If you are missing the rundll32.exe file, that is a Windows issue, and you need to check that out on the Windows Forums.
    c:/ windows rundlll32.exe.
This started poppping up on the screen after my husband tried to find the virus and ran a virus scan.
    Thank you for your help.

    Pat,

If you can still see the Inbox file here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\Profilename\Mail

and it shows XXXX KB, then you haven't lost your Mail. Look at that folder, and let me know the number of KB the Inbox shows, if you would please.

I need this on my computer
I can't open alot on the computer now since we have ran the virus scans.

    Pat,

The xxx is for the number which you would see, e.g., 400 KB, or 1,024 KB, etc. I want to know what the number is that you see.

The path to your Mail folder is an example also. You would put your own Profile Name where it says "profilename ". If you profile name was pat, then it would look like this:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\pat\Mail

    Ramona,
1- where do I look for the xxxxkb? Can you walk me thru the process to get to it?

    2-C:/programsfiles/netscape/users/profilesname/mail

    C:/programfiles/netscape/users/profilename/news

    Is this what you need?

I still get this popup, no file C:/windows/rundlll32.exe'
for 1 or more components, path, file name are required libraries are avaiable
    windows can't find rundlll32./exe
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\Profilename\Mail
where and how do I look for this? Please walk me thru step by step, I must not be doing something right
I just want to make sure I am doing what you asked correctly

I think that we have gone on a tangent. The main issue was the absence of rundll32.exe . You can do a search asking that questionm and you will get a ton of replies. It is virus provoked, and there are fixes. I gave one link, but there are many more.

    I have windows 98SE
Are they a CD Rom for this? Would I still follow the same directions as on rundll32.exe missing
    #2-expandX:/i386/rundlll32.ex_c:windows/rund132.exe

I still need my email-this is the main issue
