Whenever I click on a folder in MY COMPUTER, instead of getting a list of the files in that folder, I get the SEARCH FUNCTION. This happens everywhere.

Can someone help me to get out of that, pls? I just want the list of files in the folders.

    Thank you.

Occasionally the Registry entry for File Folders (Directories) gets corrupted. One effect of this can be that Search or a Command Prompt opens when you double click on a folder in Explorer, rather than the folder opening. This VB Script will make the necessary change to the system Registry to correct this.

Usage: Download folder_open.vbs and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when finished. This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.

I don't know how to reply top your answer, so I am doing it this way. This worked. Thank you so much. But when I clicked on your file, XP opened a window saying "Malicious script" and offered several options to activate it. I selected do it only once. But it did work right.

    Thanks again.

I'm glad it worked for you klingsor!

I didn't write the script, it was created by Doug Knox and the link merely led you to his site. You can trust his work without a doubt. The warnings you received are part of the XP security trying to give you time to consider whether or not to run the file. You choose correctly this time. Always consider the source of any material like that and never open anything that you aren't sure of. If you ever get that message out of the blue, decline to open or run anything until you double check.

    All the best.

BTW, As best I can figure, this problem you had is caused when you choose to go into either My Computer or Explorer and click on Tools > Folder Options > File Types > Folder and even though you don't make any changes, you click Ok rather than Cancel. Clicking Ok will mess up the Default operation for all Folders. Now you know. Don't click Ok if you get in there again. :)
