Actually several games, it says I need to update the latest drivers. But I think one of them wont play because it is bootleg/burned. But the one that I bought legally says " An privileged instruction was executed at adress 004d6365e. Click on Ok to terminate the application. What happended?

If you do a google search for "An privileged instruction was executed at adress " (do include the quote marks) and if you read German or Russian you will see some hits that may make sense to you. I could not read them.

If you search for "A privileged instruction was executed at address" there are a couple in English that look like they may point you to a fix. (note the spelling of adress vs. address and the different starting word An vs. A as would be correct in English).

Evidently this is a common issue with Mortal Kombat, Command and Conquer, and a few other apps.

Try http://gamerforums.proboards6.com/ and surely one of the gaming forums will have someone who can talk you through a fix for the problems.

Sorry there isn't any real help on here but we are short on game experts.

Try this patch and see if it helps:
    http://shortfilms.tk/

    Although author claims: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread25240-1.html
Keep compatibility mode in mind. You may still have to run it under compatibility mode (such as win2000) but it's worth a shot.

    ---------------
In case this patch doesn't pan out, I'm going to tuck this forum link away in here. I didn't go to far into the posts before stumbling across this. Further searching may be required. Besides, you may find it useful while playing the game (if your able to):

Did you make sure to browse to or install this patch into the same folder as the the one Mortal Combat is installed in? It defaults to a c:\games\mk_tril folder but states below that to select the folder your Mortal Combat files are installed in. It is looking for the file mktrilw.exe. Do you have this file?

Here's another promising Mortal Combat Public Board, conversation and links:
    http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?id=1013

Looks like this game must truly be desired, loved and handled with TLC and patience when trying to configure, bend , fold and mutilate it to work with xp. Apparently it can be done, you just have to find the right combination of patches. Have you tried posting for help or looking through the archives on these boards?

I hope I haven't given you the impression that I have the game and am giving you instructions from personal experience. I am just trying to help you locate the right patch, since you had previously tried to download it from an apparently dead or redirected link. I must admit I am intrigued though. This sounds like a fun challenge. While I don't have the game, at present, myself, I am looking for it. Should I find it and manage to get it running, I will post the how-to.

    Hi again Avex,

Well, I don't know what to tell ya'. As is often the case when hoping to suffer the same problem as the poster (you in this case) I do not have any problem. Darn it! I did manage to find and download this game, although it took a few days (slow resumable server from russia & my 56K modem made this a real test for my patience. I can't place the blame on modem speed as my husband tried with his dsl connection and the speed of the download was much the same). Anyway...I installed the game, which didn't want to work correctly on XP as expected. As a matter of fact, I did get the exact "A privileged instruction was executed.....etc" error you quoted, verbatim, right down to the address 004d635e. I installed the patch, I had previously suggested http://shortfilms.tk/ and it works like a charm. I did however, prior to applying this patch, have the file mktrilw.exe in the games folder/directory. This was the file "mktrilw.exe" file is 2.35 MB (2,465,546 bytes) dated 8/7/1997.

    C:\aholder\MK_Trilogy\MK_Trilogy\PMPRO16.DLL

*NOTE "aholder\MK_Trilogy " is just the name of the folder and subfolder, I extracted (unzipped)these files to. It could have been anything I choose to to name it.

Out of curiosity, what is the list of files you have for the game? More to the point what the *.exe or main executable file name?
