When I get pictures in an email I see them in the preview window and the full
reading window, but they do not print out. I just get that box with the x in
    it.
These are NOT "web link" pictures, but pictures "sent with email ". The are not attachments.
They print out with Outlook Express, no problem, but not Outlook.

How do I get pictures to print out?

Are you trying to print them from the 'preview' window (reading pane) or are you actually 'opening' the email (double-click)? I'm not sure you can print them from the reading pane. If opening the email doesn't take care of the problem, try running the 'detect and repair' function found in the 'Help' menu.

Are you saying you can print them from the regular pane but not the preview pane? That sounds unlikely.
Can you print pictures that arrive in email?

It was just installed, and then re-installed, and then updated with the most recent Service packs. Each time, no luck. So it's unlikely a repair is going to do much, but I'm trying it.

If I receive an email that has a picture 'embedded' (not a 'link') in it, and I double click on the email to open it... I can print it just fine.
I just tried printing from the 'Reading' pane and that works also. Which version of Outlook are you using? I'm using 2003.
I looked around in the settings and couldn't really track down any options that would correct this. The only option I found was for blocking pictures downloading in an email altogether. If I run across anything else I will let you know.

I managed to get it to print one way!
There are at least 6 ways to trigger a print, and only one of the six works for me, but that's enough.
From the folder list you can use the File pull-down menu, the icon on the Standard tool bar, or ctrl-P.
From the opened email you have the same three options.

Only the icon on the opened-email tool bar works for me. And it's different some other ways, because it just prints immediately, without giving you any options for number of copies, etc.

My version is Outlook 2000 SP-3 (9.0.0.6627) for whatever that means.
But I'm calling the problem solved. One way is all I need.
    Thanks for helping!
