When saving a file, Windows always proposes to do this "Save As..." in "My Documents ". Isn't it possible to make this "Save As..." propose another space on my harddisk?

There is a way that seems to work for some apps but I've come across some that it doesn't seem to work for. Right click on the shortcut you use to open the program you want to change it for and choose properties. In the box where it says "start in" type the path to the folder you want it to start in when you save a file. For example, if you wanted it to start in the windows folder, you'd type c:\windows. If your windows folder was located elsewhere you'd have to change it accordingly. Seems to work for most apps.

Also, I have a few programs that allow you to change from within the programs options. You might have a look in there too.

There may be a 'generic' way to change that item. This page shows a couple of registry entries to change and while I have not tried them, they look reasonable.

If you use Microsoft Office, you can change the default for those documents. Open Word, click on tools, on options, and you will find a way to change the setting. This page gives specifics for all Office apps. Similar location for the setting but not identical.
