    It is an MSN error.

    If you don't use MSN, you can uninstall it. If you do use it, you can use this command to uninstall it and then reinstall using surferdude's link above.

    If you open start/run and type (or cut and paste this) it may fix your issue.

    RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

    Is this a clean install of XP or an upgrade from a previous operating system? I have seen this error before when people have upgraded from ME or 98, (FAT32 operating systems). Do your updates from Microsoft install okay?

    From what I can gather from a Google search the inf file is related to MS Message Queuing. I know for sure the inf file for messenger is named msmsgs.inf. Does this problem stop you from using add>remove programs completely or just the windows setup part of it? If things are otherwise working the way they should, and you don't need to remove or install Message Queuing you could try removing the line that refers to it in the sysoc.inf file. You'll find it in your windows\inf folder. I don't know if this will work or not but it's worth a try. You could back the file up first and if it doesn't work you could always put the line back or copy the backup file you made back to the inf folder. If you do this and it works, you'd have to replace the line in the inf file if, in the future, you ever wanted to install or uninstall Message Queuing. But then, you'd also have to replace the missing inf file related to it also.

    The line you'll be looking for in sysoc.inf should look like this.

    msmq=msmqocm.dll,MsmqOcm,msmqocm.inf,,6

    Otherwise I suppose you could try running the system file checker but I have no idea if it replaces missing inf files or not. It may being that it's a windows file but I can't say for sure. Anybody else know for sure about this?

    Do you have msmqocm.inf in your windows\inf folder?

    Another thing you could try instead of removing the line would be to put a semi colon and a space in front of the line to comment it out. I'm not sure if this works with inf files or not but it seems to me it does. I had a look at some of my other inf files and it would appear that is the case. Just remove the semi colon and space to undo it.
