    I few days ago I started cleaning my HDD by deleting (via Windows Add/remove option) unused programs. Now when I load certain programs I get this message:
    Command complex library error!

    I have Lotus SmartSuite 97 and Works ver 4.5 which give me the problems. When I load in a spread sheet from Lotus I will get a series of error windows with the above message. The heading of the window has either:
    Rv=-2000 Comcom Error 0002 OR
    Rv=-138 GetDefault BJName Data Error 0002

    If I click to close one box the other pops up. The number shown "0002" changes and may be 0001 or 0003. I have to close the boxes a dozen or more times and then I either get another error message forcing the closing of the program or the next keystroke on the file starts the series over again.

    I had not used Works from prior to the first uninstall of unused software mentioned in the first paragraph, until after the problem had been evident for some time.

    I have uninstalled SmartSuite and reinstalled it to no avail. This was before realizing the problem also existed when using Works. I uninstalled it again, then reinstalled Windows 98 and reinstalled SmartSuite. The problem still is there.

    The problem does not seem to affect Organize (which is the only other part of SmartSuite I use). I did not have SuiteSmart and SmartCenter active before. When I reinstalled SmartSuite, they became active by default and the error windows would pop up on boot up. When I disabled SuiteSmart and SmartCenter, the problem does not happen until I open a 123 file or attempt to open Works. Just opening 123 does not cause the problem but opening a 123 file or starting to work on a blank spreadsheet will.

    Oh, yes, I did do a virus check since this started. None found.

    Any ideas??

    It would seem that during the uninstalls, a "shared" file got scratched, altered or corrupted. If it's a "library ", it was possibly a DLL (Dynamic Link Library).

    I found the expression "Command complex library error ", on a few sites, but they're Japanese or Thai and they're unreadable.

    If you have Win 98, you can try System File Checker and see if it locates a missing or bad file.

    You could try updating your Microsoft Data Access Componets, look for a file named mdac_type.exe. If anything it will speed up your works 4.5, it did for my 4.5a. Just a suggestion.

    Tried System file checker

    Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it. System file checker did not find any damaged or missing files. I am starting with a clean hard drive. Just hope I can find all of my original programs.
