    Hi,
I have a friend who has brought me his computer to clear off old files and other garbage on his system as the computer is not running well.

It was an old Windows 95 computer but someone upgraded it to Windows 98 for him so that is what is running now.

He just brought over the tower because I told him I had all the other gear necessary to run it. Well I was surprised as it didn't have a normal mouse or keyboard port. I did have an old keyboard that has the larger connection on it so that is working well. But, the problem is that the mouse will not be recognized. I have a regular mouse but I had to use an adapter with it because he doesn't have the connector that the mouse has. I plugged in the mouse with the adapter attached but I get this message when the computer boots up.
"Windows did not detect a mouse attached to the computer. You can safely attach a serial mouse now.
Attach a mouse to the PS/2 mouse port but first shut down the computer. "

I did shut down the computer when I attached the mouse and adapter to the port but it doesn't recognize it.

Any help in getting the mouse to work would be appreciated. I did call him and he will try to bring in his mouse next week when I see him but I would like to get starting working on his computer now.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Jean

Adapters on mice & keyboards either work or they don't. Makers of the adapters do NOT use a "standard" wiring scheme. Instead of trying 7 different adapters, you'd be better off locating a 9 pin Serial mouse or wait for the friend to bring his over.

    Thanks Steve,

I'll wait for my friend to bring over his mouse. Thank you for your help. I didn't realize it wasn't a standard wiring scheme. I don't know anyone who has a 9 pin serial mouse.
