When I want to save a new notepad text document in "My Documents" Folder (C:\My Documents) it does not show up in the list of folders displayed in the SAVE AS window, while other folders under root C:\ show up there on my windows 98 SE system.

Is there anything I am doing wrong? How can I get My Documents folder to show up in the SAVE AS windows folder list when saving a notepad text document to c:\My Documents folder?

    Would greatly appreciate help.

Use the drop down and save it anywhere you want. You have to drill down to the place you want it to be saved. I think the next time you want to save one, the place will already be there for use.

Starfish--Is this problem limited to documents from Notepad, or is this true for any item you want to save from any location?
I assume you are talking about the Save In line (with the drop down arrow) at the top of the Save As window. On my PC, running WinXP, MyDocuments is shown in that drop down menu as a separate directory--Not under C:\.

Bill: Thanks - This problem is limited to saving notepad documents only. When I click to save the document, the save as window pops up and when I click on the arrow to get the folders under c:\ all other folders appear except "My Documents" folder. When I try to save from MS word document, then the SAVE AS windows opens with My Documents at the top and the list of files in that folder.

On windows 98 Notepad, click File menu\SaveAs, then go to c:\Program Files\My Documents\

When the Save As window opens, what is the default location showing in the Save In field at the top (before you click the drop-down list arrow)?

At the top of the "Save AS" windows, it shows c:\ and the list of all the folders under that root directory, except "My Documents" folder.

However, I renamed My Documents folder and created a new folder with the same name - "My Documents ". Now this folder shows up in the SAVE AS window alongwith other other folders in C:\ directory, when I save a document from notepad. So I transferred all the files from the renamed old folder into this new folder and now it works okay. For some reason I am also missing MY Documents folder icon on windows 98 SE desktop also. Looks like some windows system file has been accidentally deleted and created this problem. I created a short cut to my newly created MY Documemts folder on the desktop and now everything is back to functional again.

Thanks everyone for help. It is greatly appreciated and it is a wonderful experience for me to get support from this web site.

Your workaround will suffice, but keep in mind that in Windoes98, My Documents is NOT simply a folder, it's and catual program. Some functionality will be lost in your workaround.

Did you look in c\Program Files\ for My Documents?
