This weekend I went through trojan/spyware hell. I finally got my trusty laptop clean but in a frustrated moment, I deleted my INFO2 folder which I believe also contained a desktop.ini file. Now, when I delete a file I do not get the option of sending it to the recycle bin and no deleted files show up in the bin.

This is not an issue of checking or unchecking setup box pertaining to deleting files directly. It is an issue of the INFO2 folder being missing and perhaps a registry issue, too.

I've searched Microsoft's KB but the only references I could find pertain to Win2000 or NT.

I wondering if this could be repaired with Recovery Console.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as a machine reload is going to be a daunting task at this point.

The Recycle Bin will normally recreate itself if you delete it. That is the usual recommendation for repairing it.

Locate it in Explorer, hold down the shift key, right-click and delete it.

Reboot for effect. Then create some dummy file and delete it. It is supposed to work now.

I'm assuming you don't have Norton Protected Recycle Bin or similar. If so, the above may/may not work.

Thanks for the replies. I failed to note that I also have Norton 20004 Professional. I am going to delete Norton first, test, and try to re-create the reclycle bin using the reg edit routine in Kellys Corner Tweaks.

My INFO2 folder is definitely gone and has not re-generated on its own.

    Problem seems to be fixed.

    Removed Norton Antivirus.

Did the reg edit from Kelley's Corner. It did not work

Deleted the recyler and shut down. It regenerated on startup and everything seems to be ok now.

    Re-installed Norton.

Seems to be ok. Thanks for the help.

I didn't mean to imply that you had to uninstall Norton AV, just disable Norton Protected recycle Bin, if using it.

Oh well, you got it so that's all that's important.

Thanks for the update so others can be helped via the Archives.
