    johngkerr--
This is happening on the same PC and only difference is the user?
Do you mean you want to see two windows side by side (or one on top of the other) or that one window closes when you open the next?
If the former, right click on Taskbar and click Tile Windows--Horizontally or Vertically, depending on what you want.
If the latter, right click on the link to the new site|Open in New Window. Now the new window will open on top of the old window, but you can access the old window from the Taskbar buttons. Or if you open a new version of IE, you can use the new version to look at a new site, but the old window will still be open and again can be accessed from the buttons on the Taskbar.

Sorry if I misunderstand the situation.

johngkerr--Is that person using the "right click on the link to the new site|Open in New Window" suggestion? That should allow the old window to still be open and show as a tab on the Taskbar.

Do you have Yahoo Companion installed? If so, try disabling it. If that doesn't do it, try uninstalling it. I found several references to this in the Google groups and each time uninstalling Yahoo Companion fixed it.

I've got the same problem... when I open a Internet Explorer windows, being be clicking on new windows with right click or on a hyper link or simply oprening Internet Explorer, it close the first windows explorer and open a new one.

I'm using Windows XP, Service Pack 2. I don't have any programs like Yahoo Companion installed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you use Yahoo Messenger? If so, Companion comes with it. It can be uninstalled in add>remove programs. Disable any popup blocker you might be using. I know it doesn't seem relevant here but it seems to solve the problem for some. Maybe take a look at the setting in IE's options on the advanced tab that says reuse windows for launching shortcuts. If it's checked, uncheck it though that shouldn't really cause this type of thing. It's worth a look though. Stranger things have happened. Are you sure the first window is closing or could it possibly be reusing the first window when you click the link?

Another thought though I have no idea if it will help or not would be to temporarily disable all browser add-ons you have and then see if the problem occurs. Some of them can sometimes cause strange things to happen. To disable them, in IE click tools>internet options>programs>manage add-ons. Then close and reopen IE and see what happens.

I've been searching the Google groups for this and there seems to be quite a bit of this but no real definite answers that I can find other than the Yahoo thing. A lot of the posts related to this go unanswered.

Thanks, you solved my problem. I found the Yahoo companion in the addons. Yesterday I couldn't find it in the Add/Remove programs toolbar.

So now everything works fine, thanks again.

Do you have Yahoo Messenger? Read CynanMachae's post just above my last one. Apparently it's not in add>remove programs.
My guess is that CynanMachae is talking about IE's manage add-ons thing. In IE, click tools>internet options>programs>manage add-ons. I had a look at the program at Yahoo's site and apparently you can remove it right from within the toolbar itself.

How do I uninstall Yahoo! Companion?

Apparently it's a toolbar similar to Google's that comes with YM. If you have YM but can't see the toolbar in IE, while in IE click view>toolbars. If it's there, click on it and it should appear in your browser.
