I have cable internet with a (ISP supplied) cable modem (Motorola SB4200) and a Netgear RP614 router which has THREE PC's attached although most of the time only ONE PC is switched on. The modem and router are left switched ON even when all PC's are powered OFF.
I have noticed that at times when I power up my PC (the main PC) that I cannot get a connection to the internet either using my browers of email program (Eudora) - error messages given stating that connection cannot be made.
To rectify this (and get internet connection) I have to UNPOWER the cabcle modem and then re attach the power lead.
Is this 'normal' or do I have a problem?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi John,

    Try this:

    1) Make sure all instances of Internet programs are closed.
    2) Go to Control Panel and open Internet Options.
    3) In Internet Options, click on the Connections tab > LAN Settings.
    4) Place a check in ONLY one box 'Automatically detect settings'.
    5) OK your way out of Internet Options.
    6) Now, open Internet Explorer. Then, close it.
    7) Go back to Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings and remove that check.
    8) OK your way out of Internet Options again.
    9) Your cable connection should now stick.
