I am having problems running setup.exe programs from CD. However the OS recognises all CD Drives and I can drag and drop files from CD's ok. An example would be installing McAfee VirusScan the Dialogue box opens okay, but when attempting to Install the program nothing happens, this was also the case (As a Test) on re-installing Windows 2000 Pro.

    Any help would be appreciated

Tough problem. I haven't a solution. One thing you didn't mention trying: from http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

"Tip: Since Win2K, it has been possible to hit Shift-F10 during setup to get a console window. This can be great to see what's hanging up an install or look up info left in a text file, but it has obvious limited usefulness - it's too darned
hard to do some operations from a console window!

"What you can do, however, is use "Winfile" from the very moment that setup starts. It needs to be the NT version - either NT 4 or 3.51 will work, and presumably earlier versions also. The WfW3.11 or Win9x version *will not* work
    on 2000/XP.

"Since Winfile is only 244 K, it can be carried around comfortably on a tech floppy or burned onto a tools CD. Not an everyday need, but when you do need file browse ability during an XP setup, you really need it. "

I used to work at a Navy base, and I have seen this problem before. I never knew what caused the problems, and short of an OS re-install, I never did correct these problems, but I did find a simple work-around. Copy the entire contents of the CD to a dummy folder on C:\, then install from there. When you've finished the install, just delete the dummy folder. Not very elegant, or smart, but it worked just about every time.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your idea's, the PC is actually my Father-In - Laws, and I have been away on business.

I can only try out your idea's when I next visit him (200 Mile round trip), Yes I have tried copying the complete contents of the CD to the local Hard Disk, but I still get the same problem, my thoughts now are the MS Installer could have been corrupted. He is just about to celebrate his 80th Birthday and the PC might not have been shut down correctly.

I think I will have to bring it back to my home to give this problem the time it deserves!

Any other thoughts always gratefully accepted
