On a new system the computer will not recognise the CD player it will recognise the CD/R/RW device. I replaced the cable and it indicated that it had found new hardware but when I tried to use the CD the system froze. On reboot it again did not find the CD player. Any ideas for a solution?

What's the configuration of the drives?

Is the HD the Master on IDE channel #1?

Is the Burner the Master on channel #2?

Is the cd-rom a slave to it?

    G'day again Surferdude2
Yes the HDD is master on Chanel 1 but the CDR is slave and the CD is master on Chanel 2. The CD does not show up in the BIOS.
    i.e. Secondary Master (None)
    Secondary Slave (UJDD420)

    Not good.

The burners always like to be Masters. The cd-rom can be slave anywhere you like. Set the jumpers accordingly or go with Cable Select if the board and cables support it.
