    Hi,
I was having problems with setting up a home network.
One of the suggestions made was to:

"Enable the Guest account for network access by typing this line at a command prompt on XP:

    net user guest /active:yes

Remove any network password from the Guest account:

    1. Click Start | Run.
    2. Type "control userpasswords2" in the box and click OK:
    3. Click Guest.
    4. Click Reset Password.
    5. Click OK without entering a new password. "

Since we did this we can no longer access our Windows XP Home computer as an Administrator. When we boot, it's always into a Guest account.

As Administrator, we just used our full name and no password previously.

Any suggestions as to how we can re-establish our name as Administrator to log on with full rights.

    Thanks

If you boot to safe mode and log on there as administrator then log out and reboot, does it clear the problem?

Another option that should work fine with XP-pro but I have no idea of XP-home offers the feature or not .. force a standard login window where you have to type in username and password (if any). XP should remember the last logged in user and you can disable the standard window again. The option (pictured) is part of the window you get with the control userpassword2 command.

    Hi Newt,
    Thanks for the reply.
I tried Safe Mode but I couldn't make any changes because I was in the Guest Account there also.

Here's what I finally did to solve the problem:

In the Guest Account we went to Start, Run and typed in "control userpasswords2" and clicked OK.
We got a dialog box which showed a different dialog box than the one you would normally get with this command. It had a User Name space which had "Administrator" in it and Password space for a password which was blank. Below this there was instructions about using Ctr+Alt+Del, which I used.
This took me to the "Windows Task Managerâ€. Here I selected the "Shutdown" tab and then "Log Off Guestâ€.
After this it eventually took me to my name as Administrator. I clicked on this and Windows XP started with full privileges.
Then I went to Control Panel, User Accounts and turned off the Guest Account.
When I rebooted, the computer was back to operating with Administrator’s Privileges.
