Help--Almost every time Internet Explorer 5.0 comes up I get an "Illegal Operation----" pop-up box and then under "details "-- "IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in module URLMON.DLL "
I have tried everything--no Quickview Plus in the Registry--replaced the urlmon.dll file in windows/system. Don't know what else to do? Anybody have a clue?
    Running Windows 98SE--Pentium 4-1.7 gig--512k ram
    Thanks for any advice--Gene

    Hi Genestoy,
    Welcome to the boards!
    Two ideas.....first one: HP printer

    Second thought:
How comfortable are you with the registry? Do not do this unless you know what you're doing:

To resolve this behavior, remove all but one of the QuickView Plus entries from the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\Accepted Documents

Click on Start Menu and choose [Run…].
    Type "˜regedit’ and choose [OK].
On left side double click on "˜HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE’.
    Double click on "˜Software’.
    Double click on "˜Microsoft’.
    Double click on "˜Windows’.
    Double click on "˜CurrentVersion’.
    Double click on "˜InternetSettings’.
    Click on "˜Accepted Documents’.
On right side click on extra QuickView Plus entries.
Click the [Edit] menu and choose [Delete]

    Daizy,
Appreciate the time to reply, but in my original message I said I had already done the "QuickView Plus" stuff in the registry. I also don't have the HP program or the HP printer listed, I have an HP R80. Any other ideas?
    Thanks--Gene:confused:

    Sorry Genestoy,
Have you tried to upgrade to a newer version of IE? I notice you're running 5.0?

    Try:

Start > Run > type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll > click OK. You should get back a "success/fail" dialog. Acknowledge the message and reboot if the re-registration was successful.

Daizy's suggestion about an update is a good one, too.

    It's Fixed!--But how about this?

Thanks all--I took Daizy's advice and upgraded to 5.5 and the problem went away! Now if I could only figure out why my computer will not shut down! Start/Shut Down -- I have been using the rundll32.exe user.exe/exitwindows to shut down the computer, and it works fine, but can't figure out why the windows button does not work. Running 98SE?????--I know this has been a problem for many!
    Thanks

    Hi again Genestoy.
There is a patch that addresses just that issue.
When you did your updates? Did you ensure you had all your critical updates done?

    Daizy,
That patch has been installed, along with all other updates. I have two computers with 98se and they both won't shut down properly!
