Is "Adware..." a magnet for popups and such, to con users to buy software?

I clicked on the link offered - "Adware" as signatures to some responses - and that is when the c-r-a-p began and when I run the program, that identifies the vagrant popups, the only way I can use it is to buy it ????

Seems a bit suspicious don't you thinK?

Pop-up problems multiplied when I decided to use the "freeware. "

Hijacklogs seem superfluous according to threads noted here ...

check my thread: I got helped.

A week ago this computer was working fine, but we weren't updating Spybot signatures and running adaware regularly. Thursday night, creamed, hijacked totally. Tonight, a calm computer that runs fast, fine again. Dave really helped me; follow these guys' directions. Seem to know what they're doing.

If when clicking on ANY link on a webpage and it's followed by popups, then you must realize that the HTML code of the webpage is intended to launch popups OR that your computer is already infected with spyware.

Many spyware hijack browser functionality, not just the homepage. many spyware also hijack your search pages, and some even "hook into" the browser so that every 1 or 3 or 5 links that get clicked will launch popups. Some spyware are "on a timer" and will do their dirty work based on some malicious clock code that comes with it.

No, Adaware itself does NOT promote, promulgate or induce more spyware on a computer system.

It is more likely that you used it and that it could not entirely remove the infections on your computer, and thus there is an apparancy that Adware somehow is responsible for your continued popups and infection.

That is exactly why it is recommended to use other anti-spyware tools in conjunction with Adaware. There is NO ONE TOOL that "does it all ", several may have to be employed to fix a computer.

And...some spyware will connect to other spyware servers and download and automatically install more spyware! Realize that it is the spyware that is doing this and NOT the anti-spyware programs.

And be cautions, do your reading...there are several malicious spyware that have similar names to anti-spyware tools. ADAWARE is good, while ADWARE program is bad. Note the spelling difference?

    What about SpySubtract ?
It's one of the ones I've used, but I never see any mention of it here.

    About SpySubstract

I've tried SpySubstract for a couple o' days, but had to uninstall it due to networking prob's. First of all, it's incompatible with gmail notifier, secondly, it removed all my network shares on my prvt network.

I'll be stickin' to the ones I'm used to: Ad-Aware SE Professional, SpyBot S&D, Microsoft AntiSpyware, PestPatrol, SpywareBlaster and a good old F-Secure Antivirus, patched and freshly updated!

I would love to be able to use ZoneAlarm Pro, but there is an issue between F-Secure and ZA :(
