Since I changed to Win XP Pro, my 5100c scanner (using Window's built-in driver) hasn't worked as well as it did with Win 98 using the HP driver. Some times the quality is up to 90% and sometimes only 30% as good as the old Win 98 installation. I want to use Hp's software but cannot find clear instructions

The HP website has instructions that are not clear to me. One part says to use the orig. installation software and upgrade. A few lines down says to use installation software for Windows 2000 Pro and it's upgrade. Conflict? I couldn't find installation software for Win 2000 Pro anywhere on the HP website; only updates or patches. I've been through ALL of HP's support site. Support e-mail is no longer supported. Tech support wants $30. (to hear sorry Charlie?). HP used to have a customer discussion forum, I cannot find it

Has anyone actually worked through this problem and can you give me some correct help?

    This is what I have:
    1. New computer with Windows XP Pro.
    2. The orig. installation CD from 1998 for HP 5100c Scanner
    3. The latest update (sj660mu.exe) supposedly for XP
    4. The scanner is parallel

Thankx for any help in advance!

    Scanner drivers

I went to the hp support and drivers homepage and found a software driver and update for my Hp PSC 750 All-in-One machine( Ver 3.00 dated 06-2004) I ordered the cd (60.63M) from them instead of downloading because I have slow dial up. It was my understanding that you could temp use the driver that came with XP Pro till I got the correct drivers for my printer. The furnished complete install instructions for when the disc came in.

My machine was 98 se but ugraded to Win xp pro and printer problems started with not printing , not scanning, etc. I won't know if this is the fix yet as I am still waiting on driver and software disc.

Hope this gets you started in right direction with your scanner.
