I''m running low on memory, so I took out the 256mb that I put in a year ago and put in another 512mb. My computer's limit is 1024mb , I have the right memory , but when I put the new one in it says that I'm now very low on memory. When I had it in though, it showed on my system that I now had 1gb of memory but I still got the warning

Hi kohoutek and welcome to the forum.

You say you were running low on memory. What was happening to indicate that?

What it the exact error or warning message you are getting and when do you see it?

What are your settings for virtual memory (right-click My Computer, left click Properties, click the top tab, and look where indicated in the attached picture).

    Memory Issue

it shows virtual memory at 1150mb and won't allow me to use maximum because : not enough free space for max paging file, continue and file will only grow to size of available free space. The other message pops up if I go to save something, it keeps saying I have critically low memory

    It's a nomenclature/wording issue.

RAM - random access memory - is the stuff that you get on chips and can put in as much as you can afford up to the limits your system will allow.

Virtual Memory - also called pagefile - a section of hard drive set aside for the PC to use as extra but slower "memory" to augment the physical RAM in your PC.

I gather from your second post that you are real short on hard drive space. In fact, sounds like you are critically short and urgently need to get rid of some stuff.
